It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Douglas Arthur Hill on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 88 years of age.
Born in Newmarket, Ontario on March 27, 1937 to George and Hazel Hill of Nobleton.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Hill (nee Thacker), his 3 children Kerri Hill-Schafer (Paul), David Hill (Tracy), and Janice Calverley (Shaun), and his brother Wayne Hill (Joanne). “Pa” will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Alexander (Kayla), Brett, Dylan, Ryan, Natalie, Madeline, Matthew, Jenna, step-grandkids Josh, Ryan (Kali), and Matt, and great grandson Landon (Alex and Kayla). He will be missed by his many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Doug is predeceased by his infant brother Kenneth, and his sister Vera (Clark).
A graduate of the University of Toronto, Doug was a devoted science and chemistry teacher at Orangeville High School and then King City Secondary School where he worked most of his career until retirement. Doug treasured his teaching career, students, and was a respected staff member. After retiring, Doug and Marg purchased the family insurance brokerage in Nobleton, and worked side by side for several years until he retired again.
Beyond professional accomplishments, Doug was known for being a dedicated family man. He was kind, well read, and easy to talk with. Aside from his family, he also touched countless lives through community involvement including coaching minor hockey and baseball, founding the Nobleton Soccer Association, playing hockey, and being a member of the Nobleton’s Lion’s Club, Masons, and Nobleton Cemetery. Doug remained proud of Nobleton and his family’s King township heritage. Doug had a love of hockey and loved his Toronto Blue Jays. He was also an avid researcher of family heritage.
Everyone will remember Doug for his love, wisdom, loyalty, dedication to education, and his sense of humour. His unwavering spirit and legacy will continue to live on in all who knew him.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street South (Hwy. 50) Bolton (905-857-2213) on Sunday, March 8th from noon until time of memorial service in the chapel at 2pm. Followed by a reception.

My condolences to the whole family. Mr. Hill was my late 1980’s Chem teacher at KCSS. I remember how he encouraged us, putting up with our adolescent shenanigans while keeping us safe. I’ll remember his analogies, and careful instructions that we didn’t always follow such as “a pea sized chunk of potassium with no oxide,” student bunsen burner vent mishaps, and his support when stressing about tests. I remember Mr Hill as a great teacher who enhanced my desire to pursue the sciences. His patience and quiet humour and that never ending smile made it a pleasure to enter his classroom.
I also remember him as a terrific hockey coach inspiring his players to higher achievements while making us better team players.
Doug played in our regular hockey game of Grade 13 students versus the teachers. He still had the moves from his early days and the shot to go with it.
He will be missed and I’ll always treasure the memories I have of him.

Mr. Hill was such an integral part of KCSS, his passion for teaching and genuine care for his students went far beyond the classroom.
Mr. Hill was my Grade 9 Science teacher, and he genuinely cared about every one of his students. His encouragement profoundly changed the course of my life, helping me move from general to advanced courses in Grade 10 and eventually on to university. Without his coaching and belief in me, my path would have been quite different.
He was often one of the last teachers in the building, working late in his classroom. Many times he was my last chance getting home to Nobleton after the “late bus” had already departed. I would also often see him at his desk through the window of his home on Faris Drive in Nobleton, preparing lessons or marking papers in the evening.
Mr. Hill was a wonderful teacher and neighbour. His kindness, dedication, and added touch of humour was appreciated.
