Guido Masutti

August 2, 2026 By Egan Funeral Home Leave A Condolence

Masutti web

Guido was born on January 8, 1938 in Sarone, Pordenone, Italy and passed away peacefully at the age of 88 in Beeton, Ontario on August 30, 2026 surrounded by his children and grandchildren, listening to them talk, joke, and tell stories together.

Guido was a devoted husband to Edda; Son of Natale and Lucia (predeceased); brother to Piero (pd), Pia (pd), and Anna Maria (pd). Guido is eternally the loving father of Lucia (Steve), Robert (Marisa) and Marco (Mackenzie) and loving Nonno to Stephanie, Natalie, Christopher, Nadia, Gabriel, Catherine, and Aaron.

After suffering an injury while cycling to school in winter at the age of 15, Guido decided to join his father working in a stone quarry in Val Gardena to help support the family. Two years later he got a job alongside his brother Piero working as a stone Mason in Switzerland, and worked there for six more years. He took night school courses in drafting, but always preferred working with his hands outside. His skills were easily recognised, and Guido was promoted to foreman, cutting and installing granite curbs in cities in Switzerland. At age 22 he followed his sister Anna Maria to Canada looking for year-round work – his first job in Canada was at a factory making asbestos gaskets.

Guido met Edda in Etobicoke during a chance encounter at a bank, when Edda ‘accidently’ dropped her bank book, and Guido, ever the gentleman, picked it up for her. They were married August 15, 1964, settling on Gracedale Blvd in a small but comfortable semi-detached house. With a growing family and wanting more space, the family moved up to Caledon East on Walkers Rd, close to friends. These were lean years and Guido worked several jobs; at an electroplating factory, as a bricklayer; and in the early 70s got his real estate licence. They found a property in Woodbridge on Riverview Ave in 1980 and built their family home where they lived for 45 years. Initially Guido specialized in stone fireplaces; some projects that he worked on included Air Canada Hangers, numerous schools, and towards the end of his construction career he helped rejuvenate the stone walls of Queens Park. A bad fall from a scaffold sidelined Guido with a broken ankle. After the ankle healed, he concentrated on working on the ground, creating magnificent stone pathways, stairs, and more.

Guido helped wherever he could around his children’s houses, who now had growing families of their own. He loved his grandchildren very much, helping to care for them, play with them, taught them to ride bikes, and was proud of each one. He loved hunting for Moose, and taught both Robert and Marco marksmanship and woodworking. He spent his later years as a community activist being featured several times in the local paper and was well known to municipal council. In the spring of 2025 Edda and Guido moved to Sorrento Retirement Home where they found many new and old friends.

His beloved wife Edda passed away in February 2026, and Guido continued to ask after her during these past several months. The family is comforted knowing they are now together again.

The family will receive family and friends at Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen St. S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Saturday August 8 from 10 o’clock until time of funeral service in the chapel at 12 o’clock, followed by interment at Nashville Cemetery, 10445 Huntington Road, Kleinburg.

The family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers  to Alzheimer Society York Region in his memory.
