March 27, 1937 – February 18, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Douglas Arthur Hill on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 88 years of age.
Born in Newmarket, Ontario on March 27, 1937 to George and Hazel Hill of Nobleton.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Hill (nee Thacker), his 3 children Kerri Hill-Schafer (Paul), David Hill (Tracy), and Janice Calverley (Shaun), and his brother Wayne Hill (Joanne). “Pa” will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Alexander (Kayla), Brett, Dylan, Ryan, Natalie, Madeline, Matthew, Jenna, step-grandkids Josh, Ryan (Kali), and Matt, and great grandson Landon (Alex and Kayla). He will be missed by his many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Doug is predeceased by his infant brother Kenneth, and his sister Vera (Clark).
A graduate of the University of Toronto, Doug was a devoted science and chemistry teacher at Orangeville High School and then King City Secondary School where he worked most of his career until retirement. Doug treasured his teaching career, students, and was a respected staff member. After retiring, Doug and Marg purchased the family insurance brokerage in Nobleton, and worked side by side for several years until he retired again.
Beyond professional accomplishments, Doug was known for being a dedicated family man. He was kind, well read, and easy to talk with. Aside from his family, he also touched countless lives through community involvement including coaching minor hockey and baseball, founding the Nobleton Soccer Association, playing hockey, and being a member of the Nobleton’s Lion’s Club, Masons, and Nobleton Cemetery. Doug remained proud of Nobleton and his family’s King township heritage. Doug had a love of hockey and loved his Toronto Blue Jays. He was also an avid researcher of family heritage.
Everyone will remember Doug for his love, wisdom, loyalty, dedication to education, and his sense of humour. His unwavering spirit and legacy will continue to live on in all who knew him.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street South (Hwy. 50) Bolton (905-857-2213) on Sunday, March 8th from noon until time of memorial service in the chapel at 2pm. Followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

Dear Janice and Family,
I’m very sorry to hear of your loss. I have good memories of being in your dad’s chemistry class with his passion for teaching. Sending love to all of you.
Linda and I would like to sent our condolences and prayers to the Hill family,
My condolences to the whole family. Mr. Hill was my late 1980’s Chem teacher at KCSS. I remember how he encouraged us, putting up with our adolescent shenanigans while keeping us safe. I’ll remember his analogies, and careful instructions that we didn’t always follow such as “a pea sized chunk of potassium with no oxide,” student bunsen burner vent mishaps, and his support when stressing about tests. I was well-prepared for first year Engineering Chem. Rest in Peace.
Condolences to the family. Sorry for your loss.
Mr. Hill was a wonderful teacher, dedicated to his craft. I enjoyed his classes, he was very encouraging, and I will always remember the smile on his face. It was a pleasure to know him.
Janice and the Hill Family,
I’m so very sorry for your loss. I remember being in your dad’s chemistry class and how enthusiastic he was about teaching and sharing his knowledge. Thinking of you and your family during this difficult time.
Mrs.Hill, Kerri, Dave, Janice and families,
Our condolences to you all.
Hold onto all the wonderful memories you’ve shared and may they help you through this difficult time.
Bill Pitkin
Mrs. Hill (Miss Thacker) and family,
I remember Mr Hill as a great teacher who enhanced my desire to pursue the sciences. His patience and quiet humour and that never ending smile made it a pleasure to enter his classroom.
I also remember him as a terrific hockey coach inspiring his players to higher achievements while making us better team players.
Doug played in our regular hockey game of Grade 13 students versus the teachers. He still had the moves from his early days and the shot to go with it.
He will be missed and I’ll always treasure the memories I have of him.
My sincere condolences.
My deepest condolences to the Hill family.
Mr. Hill was such an integral part of KCSS, his passion for teaching and genuine care for his students went far beyond the classroom.
Mr. Hill was my Grade 9 Science teacher, and he genuinely cared about every one of his students. His encouragement profoundly changed the course of my life, helping me move from general to advanced courses in Grade 10 and eventually on to university. Without his coaching and belief in me, my path would have been quite different.
He was often one of the last teachers in the building, working late in his classroom. Many times he was my last chance getting home to Nobleton after the “late bus” had already departed. I would also often see him at his desk through the window of his home on Faris Drive in Nobleton, preparing lessons or marking papers in the evening.
Mr. Hill was a wonderful teacher and neighbour. His kindness, dedication, and added touch of humour was appreciated.
Sending heartfelt thoughts to your family

Dear Janice and family,
I have such great memories of your dad as a teacher at KCSS. My condolences on your loss.
Being an old Nobleton resident and attended Nobleton PS I remember Doug and the Hill family Also Marg and probably Doug at times coached our girls baseball team. My condolences to the Hill family.
To the friends and family of Douglas Hill, please know this. He had a very important role as a science teacher for a youngster, whose parents never went to high school. He was one of my three references to apply to medical school in 1977, the only one that I obtained from a high school teacher. He was a kind and compassionate educator whom I have often thought of over the past 50 years, He would’ve made an excellent physician as well! May all your memories of him give you joy and contentment
My sincere condolences to the Hill family. I enjoyed Mr. Hill as my chemistry teacher at KCSS. Chemistry was a very important subject for me, because I studied at university to become a pharmacist. I appreciate all the efforts Mr. Hill made on behalf of his students. He was a very good science teacher. I remember him with fondness. Once again, my condolences to all of you at this difficult time.
I also remember Doug as my chemistry teacher at King City. He was successful in creating my interest in environmental issues and engineering. He was a success in many areas and will be remembered by many. Please accept my condolences.
Thinking of your family at this sad time. Mr. Hill was a dedicated and passionate teacher at KCSS. I also have fond memories of babysitting his three lovely children in Nobleton. Cherish your treasured memories. I am sorry for your loss.
Marg and Hill Family
So sorry to hear the passing of Doug, have great memories of being in the Nobleton Lions Club together.
Also remember visits he had with my dad Walter Hill on our Hill family Heritage.
So sorry to hear of Doug’s passing, though I’ll always refer to Doug as Mr. Hill. It’s clear that Mr.Hill touched so many lives and lived a very full life. I was just one of many. My first memory of Mr Hill was going to his wedding to Miss Thacker, my grade 6 teacher at Nobleton Public School. A few years later he was my coach when I played on the Nobleton Pee Wee team. He taught us how to play the game & respect it. 6 years later Mr Hill is teaching me chemistry at KCSS, with the same patience and dedication. My condolences to Marg, his entire family and an army of friends. RIP & thank you.
Very sorry to hear about your loss. Deepest condolences to Mrs. Hill, Kerri, David, Janice & families. May your happy memories together bring you peace. All the best, Marie Byles, Sandra & family
