A Life Remembered

Jana lived a life marked by resilience, strength, devotion, and joy. She brought warmth wherever she went, creating homes filled with generosity, hospitality, laughter, good food, and lasting memories. To family, friends, neighbors, students, and all who knew her, Jana was a steady presence, a vibrant spirit, and a person who truly cared for others.

Born with intelligence, determination, and an independent sprit Jana graduated from Technical University in Czechoslovakia with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After a short career in her field, she immigrated to Canada with her husband and their four-year-old daughter, and put her career aside to raise her family.

Her true calling seemed to be teaching. She loved working as a ski instructor at the London Ski Club and taught Grade 1 at an international school in Riyadh, where her patience, energy, and kindness left a lasting impression on her students and colleagues. Loved by her students and respected by parents, colleagues, and friends, she also enjoyed instructing aerobics, water aerobics and line dancing. Her legacy lives on through those she taught, encouraged, and inspired.

Above all, Jana was devoted to her family. She was the anchor behind the scene, the one who steadied the ship, offered advice and encouragement, and gave everyone a shoulder to lean on. Her love was constant, practical, and generous, often expressed through cooking. No one ever left Jana’s table hungry. Her home was the centre of celebrations, traditions, and unforgettable moments. Jana loved bringing people together, welcoming every guest with warmth, food, drink, and genuine hospitality.

Jana embraced life fully and enthusiastically. A woman of boundless energy, she remained active throughout her life and loved sports of all kinds. She was an avid skier, a proficient tennis player, a determined golfer, an enthusiastic gardener and was always up for a pickle ball game with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful dancer, and participated in many forms of dancing, including ballroom, Argentine tango, Scottish dancing, square dancing and line dancing. She loved music, conversation, and time spent with family and friends. She participated in and organized many fun activities throughout her life, always bringing her energy and spirit to everything she did. Jana also loved to travel. With curiosity and enthusiasm, she visited many countries, often with family and friends. Through every move, new place, and chapter of life, she made lifelong friends and built a sense of home wherever she went.

Though she is no longer with us, Jana’s unconditional love and vibrant spirit remain. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, neighbours, students, and all whose lives she touched. Our hearts are full of gratitude for the full life she lived and the many memories she leaves behind.

Jana, at 83, you left us too soon. Yet we take solace in knowing your love continues to watch over us. May your strength, generosity, and joyful spirit guide us through this loss and inspire us to live as you did: fully, completely, and in the selfless spirit of love.
