Born in a field with the gate open in Cobden, Ontario, George Leach passed suddenly on May 9, 2024, at the age of 87. As a young man, George moved to Manotick, where he met his beloved wife Gail on a blind date. They found success in love and life, moving their family of 4 children, Julie (Paul), Holly (Peter), Merydie (Joe), and Rob (Anna-Marie), to Brampton, then Edmonton, before finally settling in Caledon, Ontario, as a proud employee of the Ford Motor Company. Predeceased by siblings Graham, Annie, and William, and his wife Gail. Following Gail‘s death, George was lucky to find love a second time with Sheila Shields. George is remembered by his grandchildren, Sally, Lucas, Erica, Maddie, AJ, Samantha, Allison, and William, and his four great-grandchildren. George leaves us with a lasting memory of a true gentleman; a charming and honourable man who made lifelong friends wherever he went.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Wednesday, May 15, 5–8 pm.
Memorial service will be held at Mayfield United Church, 12496 Dixie Road, Caledon on Thursday morning, May 16 at 11:00 am, reception to follow.
Private family interment to follow.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to Mayfield United Church or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

George was a person that makes the statement ‘one person can make a difference’ come true. Coming along side of George & working with him changed my outlook & life that I will be eternally grateful. Knowing the family I know the torch that has been passed on will not go out but will shine even brighter & forever.
My prayers are with all of you.

We met George 17 years ago through our good friend Sheila. We had many good times with him when he visited Sheila in Florida as well as their homes in the Brampton area.
He hosted a number of meals for us but his spareribs were the biggest hit.
He was very much a gentleman and kept up with worldly events.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and Sheila at this difficult time.

George was a beautiful person and kind neighbour. George would often walk across the field to our house for a visit.
One day George walked across and asked me why I had washing out on the line; it wasn’t Monday. I’m sure I gave a confused look, George said “it’s not Monday. Monday is wash day” I laughed and replied “I have four small children, every day is wash day”. George was kind and thoughtful alway asking after the kids, a friendly smile at church and a reassuring word. He will be deeply missed by our family, Emmett, Henry, Avery, Angus & Johanna

I was blessed to be mentored by George at Central Region so many years ago. The education and training he provided to all who worked beside him is an asset lacking today for the current generation. The world needs more people like George.

George was a true gentleman. I was honoured to work alongside him in the Heavy Truck department. Sending condolences to his family and all who loved him

George and I first met when Ford built a new office and warehouse in Bramalea back in 1964. Later around 1982 I joined the truck sales and marketing group where George had worked for some years. I knew next to nothing about heavy trucks so George took me under his wing and taught me all there was to know about trucks and the trucking industry. This began a long and amicable friendship. I learned a lot from George but I am not sure what he learned from me.
Our sympathy and condolences to all his family and friends.

George was a great co-worker and a true friend to our dad, Al Farmer, during his career at Ford. George was a big help to Terry and I personally and the whole team at Farmbro as he helped mentor us into the automotive fleet industry. His support to Farmbro’s history and success was much appreciated. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Leach family. Rest in Peace George.

Dear Leach family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I find that I am not just sad to lose Mr. Leach (he will always be Mr. Leach to me,) but I also miss all the wonderful times our families had together that didn’t really seem gone until now. I know you are making new memories with your children and grandchildren and that Mr. Leach was proud of you all. “Should auld acquaintance be forgot and the days of auld lang syne?” No, I will always be thankful for those days and for all of you. I found this picture of our dads dated December 25, 1973. If you are like me, you will continue to hear your dad in your head. The best of them is always there. Love you so much
Sheila, I am sorry for your loss too and so glad that he had you in his life.

So sad to hear of George’s passing. My condolences to the family! We were friends at Ford and was a fine person. He had encouraging words for me when I needed them and I will always remember him.

We loved George for many reasons. One favourite reason explains why we referred to him as ‘The Shout Out Man.
Whether it was an outdoor summer coffee hour, the Annual Meeting or during any given church service, George would shout out one of his witty comments that caused a burst of laughter from everyone!!
Just before the church’s 2014 Christmas Cantata our son was sitting alone in the sanctuary. Not knowing him, George approached him and in his caring manner, gave a warm welcome to our son . A moment he has never forgotten.
All who had the good fortune to know George, will be repeating his endearing one-liners and nurturing manner for many years to come!
Curious about his famous quotes? Ask his family!!!

Bob and I could not make the visitation.
We have such fond memories of dinners with your Mom and Dad. His best advice was, “If it’s to be it’s up to me!”
His love of his family and devotion to his community and church was admirable and heart warming. Our sincere condolences to his family and to Sheila
