Gary Wayne Broad, 77, of Wasaga Beach and longtime resident of Nobleton, passed away unexpectedly on January 16, 2025.
Gary was born in Schomberg on March 29, 1947, to Gordon and Harriet Broad (McFadden). The youngest of four brothers, he spent nearly his entire life in Nobleton.
He met his future wife Faye when they were babies with their mothers at church meetings. They attended high school together and married in 1968. They raised their two children, Robbie and Julie, in Nobleton, where Gary curled, played slo-pitch and was active in hockey and baseball.
In his later years, he focused his time puttering around his beloved yard, polishing his vehicle and fixing whatever needed to be fixed. He loved seeing what Julie and her husband Keith were up to and doting on his two grandchildren, Gordon (Tait) and Barrett (Beau), and attending their baseball games and school activities.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Gord and Harriet. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Faye (Neill), his children, Robbie, Julie (Keith Scoles), grandchildren Tait and Beau, brothers David (Carol), Doug, and Glen (Nancy) and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend thanks to Simcoe County Paramedic Services, the Wasaga Beach Fire Department, Huronia West OPP and the staff at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to donate in Gary’s memory to the Jumpstart Program (jumpstart.canadiantire.ca) for kids.
A memorial reception will be held at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Sunday afternoon, February 2nd from 1:00 to 3:00 o’clock.
Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

Nancy &. Alan Hopkinson
Our sympathies to you, Faye, and to your children, Robbie and Julie. We saw a lot of each other over the years, hockey rink and working on the Nobleton Junior School playground, deciding on the elements for the playground and working on fundraising for it. Also bumped into Gary a lot at the post office. We always admired your home with the large trees out front and Gary going around on his tractor to keep the lawn looking perfect. So sad when the first thing that the new owner (after you sold your lovely Nobleton home) did was to cut down the big tree by the King Rd. Still we think of you everytime we got past your spot.

Our Poppa was a kind hearted good grandfather. We loved playing baseball with him in the summer and working on the pitching mounds together for Wasaga Baseball. Out of all the things we did with him, we loved going to Mont Tremblant and down East. We used to swim in the pool with him and he would drop golf balls at the bottom of the pool so we could catch them.
We won’t ever forget having him watch us play baseball or how he could build things.
We miss you.

Mr. Broad, as I always addressed him as, had such a kind and gentle demeanour. He was a great neighbour to have across the street and throughout the years of watching him either washing his vehicle or attending to his immaculate yard, or fixing something on his home, I learned from his work ethic that he approached everything with a slow, steady and highly efficient manner. I admired that quality he possessed as it reminded me to slow things down myself.
I would often go and visit him when I saw him outside ( which he was out every day ) and we would just talk about life in his garage and at times he would educate me on the history of Nobleton, as he saw it. I will never forget Mr. Broad and the ear he always had to listen to me while I spoke to him about my father when he was battling Cancer.
To this day, I still miss Mr. Broad a great deal since he and Mrs. Broad moved from Nobleton. However, over the past 2 years we still kept in contact over the phone and I am thankful for that.
My sincere condolences to Mrs. Broad, Robbie and Julie. The man I speak of had a spirit of excellence and he will never be forgotten.

Also many years of curling together.

To Faye and her family,
Gary’s western cousins ; the children of Dora and Wesley Broad. Donna, Diane (Jim) Linda(Glen) Richard (RuthAnne) and their families send their condolences on the passing of their cousin Gary. I (Linda) was privileged to have visited with Gary and Faye in September at a family “Cousin’s Celebration” hosted by Glen and Nancy at their home. It was a wonderful day of bringing together the Broad family and one I will never forget.
Life is all about memories, which hold families together. Hold on to your memories of Gary as they will provide comfort in the difficult and sad days ahead.
One memory that keeps popping into my head was a trip to Nobleton from Medicine Hat in a Volkswagen filled with 4 kids, a tent and our mother Dora. She was taking us to bond with our eastern family – a family our father was so proud of. What a wonderful experience, We enjoyed our time at the cottage at Lake Simcoe with Aunt Harriet, Uncle Gord and David, Doug, Glen and Gary. We learned to water ski. We visited with Uncle Tim, Aunt Olive, Aunt Mima and their families . Memories… they keep coming making each person’s life a positive influence on each others life.
Faye, my memories of Gary will be with me always. Keep your memories within your heart as they will provide you much comfort and strength in the days ahead.
Wishing you strength,
With Warm Wishes Always,
Linda Slemko (Glen)

Gary was always one of the nicest guys I ever knew. Most of my memories are from the rink. I spent many hours watching some great hockey from the “Beavers”- and skating around the Zamboni, while Gary would patiently wait for me to get off the ice. Always with a smile on his face.
I worked with him and Faye, and the Dalziels and the Emerson boys on the committee for ‘Nobleton-the Boom Years’ and we had great fun putting that together.
Gary was always so great about bringing Faye up to the Globe so she could enjoy lunch with our ‘Nobleton’ crew.
He was always such a great guy and has left a positive notch in my great memories of ‘Nobleton!’

What wonderful memories are shared in the condolences from family and friends. Gary was well liked, kind, a fun guy to hang out with, a mentor and a hard worker. My memories start with curling in Nobleton then The Board of Trade. We played together on the Selects slow pitch baseball team for a few years, me on third and Gary on 1st. I think I tried to keep up with Gary when the guys tried to convince ourselves that we were younger and fitter playing Sunday night hockey . Bev and I send our prayers and condolences to you and your families. Gary will be missed. From the comments shared, you had a wonderful, happy and loving friendship with most of Nobleton and your own family.

I was very sorry to learn of the passing of Gary. I remember him well from our adolescent years, particularly at high school in King City. He and I were similar in age and consequently played minor hockey on the same team during our teen years. My sympathy to Faye and the extended Broad family.

Our deepest condolences on Gary’s passing. We have many fond memories in Nobleton-attending S.S. 19 King, being in the old cold arena with the Nobleton Beavers and later in the new arena with our sons’ hockey teams, and also on the Nobleton baseball diamond. It was great to see that Gary’s love of sports was enjoyed with his grandchildren. He may have passed on but cherish the good times and memories in order to get through this sad and difficult time. He will definitely be missed by his family and many friends. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

I have known Gary since he was born. His brother, Doug, has been my best friend since Grade 1. I left Nobleton in 1964 and for a while was jealous of Gary, since he spent Saturday mornings with my Dad on the oil truck. He was always friendly and kind to me and I am sure his family will miss him immensely.
