Stephen Alexander Fairfield, age 70, passed suddenly on Monday, May 6, 2024 in his home in Bolton, Ontario. He was born May 2, 1954 in Hamilton, Ontario. Known to many as Steve, Steve-O, Fairfield, Farf, Coxman, and Babe/PITA by his love Maria. He was partners with Maria for over 13 years, and step-father to Sarah and David. His love for his step-children was evident in his many kind and generous acts.

He was Director of Sales at Skjodt-Barret Foods displaying a knack for problem solving, truly being passionate about his work and maintaining a strong relationship with his work family. Steve had a lighthearted outlook on life, loved story telling, sharing jokes with his friends, traveling, swimming in his pool, his audio system, watching sports and spending boys weekends at Lake Rosseau. Most of all he loved his family and friends. Steve had an uncanny ability to connect with people in a deep and positive way. He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and loved ones.

When I worked at Skjodt Barrett Foods, Steve was someone who took the time to make me seen & heard. His storytelling was epic and I’ll never forget hearing his laughter booming from his office. He was “one of those people” who made the mundane exciting, the dark, brighter and never failed to just add so much light to the day. RIP Sir. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Maria and Family, Steve was a man that had a huge, huge heart. His smirk and story telling will never be forgotten. He always told me I was the reason that him and Maria were together. If it wasn’t for Gerber Products needing to ship pouches so quickly he wouldn’t have found the love of his life. He was a man that taught me a lot and that I learned what integrity really meant. I always knew when I went to Skjdot Barrett that there would be Titus Donuts waiting whether I was on a diet or not. (LOL) He will be truly missed.

Maria, He truly loved you with all his heart and always felt lucky to have caught you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

Steve’s Friend and Account Manager for Nestle / Gerber Products,
    Lori Parmer

    Dear Maria and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult times and loss of such a significant loved and magnificent person. Stephen welcomed me when I first started Skjodt-Barrett 5 years ago with welcome arms and told me “to hold on to a wild ride”…and he was not kidding. He was a warm, vibrant person and light up a room wherever he was in. He would acknowledge you in a room full of EC, Presidents/CEOs, VPs, and Directors and tell me to sit and lets talk.

Please know he will be missed terribly. —Lori Hoskins

I met Steve back in 2011 when I was a fresh face at Skjodt-Barrett. Over the last 13 years I became good friends with Steve, and always enjoyed our trips down to the Indiana facility (and of course the Sushi outings at Tegry Bistro!).

I loved listened to Steve’s stories, and his commentary on life. He was such a great guy, and always had a great listening ear and some of the greatest jokes. I feel privileged to have known him, and to have worked with him.

I will miss him dearly – Especially on my trips back up to the office in Brampton. Rest in peace my friend.

Maria, we offer our deepest condolences to you and your family.
Steve was, simply, a great guy who made others feel important
and we will all miss him greatly.
The Skjodt-Barrett family was infinitely better with Steve in it.
Many industry people and companies can point, directly, to Steve’s innovations when describing their own product success stories.

    Dear Maria,

We have not met, but I knew Stephen from the time we were both in diapers, born just a few months after him. His parents were my parents closest friends, and my brother Andy remained close to Stephen to this day… I lost contact many years ago, but heard about his life through my brother.

He was always a force of nature, a sweet man with a great sense of humour and a good soul … these are the best things to remember of him. I am sure he will be greatly missed by you and your children who he truly valued and loved. Much love to you in this difficult time.

Our deepest condolences to you and family
Steve has been a big part of our lives for over 40 years.
In all of that time we never had a negative moment and his enthusiasm for life and love was always an enduring quality.
He was always the life of the party, extremely witty, and engaging.

So sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. We crossed paths when working at Coca-Cola Ltd.’s head office (so long ago I can’t even remember when that was). Steve -knowing I spoke French- never failed to mention to me that his last name in French would have been (and perhaps was) Beauchamp. Hard to forget someone as colourful as Steve. My condolences to Steve’s family and friends.

My deepest condolences to you Maria and your sons. I did not get to know you or Stephen well, only meeting recently honoring another great man, gone too soon. Stephen became a fast friend and wish I had a chance to get to know him longer. The kind of person he was I know you have many great memories you will of him and please know that he always told me how much he loved you. Another great man gone to the spirit in the sky.

May memories of love and his loud laugh come to you in your need for comfort. Steph was a giant teddy bear to all that had the pleasure of crossing his path. Know that he spoke of his family to everyone he met, we pray for you strength and that you never forget the joy that he brought.

    Maria, Sarah and David,

Although we haven’t met, my late husband Mike and I met Steve a very long time ago through his close friend Peter. Whenever Steve came to Montréal we’d get together. It was a wonderful time in all our lives.
I’m so sorry for your loss, it’s a tough journey to be on but friends and family will comfort you along the way.
Thinking of you and all the times we spent with Steve.

I had the pleassure of working with Steve at Skjodt-Barrett in the past two and a half years.

I will miss Steve walking past my desk and yelling “How’s it going kiddo”.

I will never forget the kindness Steve showed me when I was returning from mat leave to Skjodt Barrett. I was new to his team and was unable to find child care, hence delaying my return. I felt terrible to be letting a new boss down. Not a problem for Steve! He invited me to bring my daughter to the office for monthly meetings so that I could be up to speed when I did get started! Emma happily played under the boardroom table while Steve conducted the meetings – taking breaks every once in a while to enjoy an Arrowroot cookie with Emma!! I only worked with Steve for a short time but that didn’t matter! If you were a friend of Steve’s, he was your friend for life! May he rest in eternal peace. He will be missed. My condolences to María and your children. When Steve spoke of you, he beamed!!

    Maria, Sarah & David:

Steve has been a very dear friend of Deb and mine for more than 37 years. He was kind, generous and someone who could always be counted on. He was also one of the most intelligent people that I have met who had a great zest for life. He will also be remembered as a great story teller with a knack for delivery, always finishing with a twinkle in his eye.

Steve and I, ‘Pablo’, had a BBQ a few months ago up in Bolton and finished the evening listening to his stereo system and of course watching a great film. A great memory and one that I will now cherish.

Our sincere condolences on the loss of a loving partner and step father.

    Maria and family,

Steve was a wonderful guy to be with. He was a great listener, had a great sense of humour, and was generous way beyond most. He provided a needed dimension in our twice-a-year boys’ weekend in Muskoka/Manitoulin. He left us far too early.

My deepest condolences go out to you, Sarah, and David.
