Ada, Cam and the Simone Family,
We were heartbroken to hear of Pats passing, he had become a very dear friend to us since he started coming to Gooseberry Cove.
We looked forward to seeing him on the dock when we returned from fishing or dropping by his place for a visit.
He will surely be missed by his many friends in Newfoundland. Summers here won’t be the same without him.
Our deepest condolences to you all.

Dear Ada and family,
My mother and I send our most heartfelt condolences to all of you. My mother and I spent a few pleasant hours with Pat, my dear friend Rina, and Linda, discussing food, “good food,” and enjoying the excellent cheese that Pat had made. The special unplanned moments we enjoy with people will never be forgotten.
Warmest Regards,
Felina and Pasqua Rezza

Uncle Pat
You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.
In a family as big as ours, it was rare for all of us to be together at once. Over time, different branches of the family would grow close, then shift, like seasons changing.
I got to know you best as an adult, when you and Mom grew close again. Those years meant everything. I’ll always remember you at her house, the two of you side by side, always dreaming up your next plan—your next gathering, your next meal, your next laugh.
It became a running joke with Dad and me. Whenever we’d wake up to the smell of something special cooking—like tripe or homemade pasta—Dad would light up and say:
“Oghji ariva Pasquale… allura mangiamu boni! A vidi com’è cuntenta mamata.”
(“Pasquale is coming today… so we’re going to eat well! Just look how happy Mom is.”)
And Mom would smile, with that Simone look on her face—so proud of her baby brother and of the closeness the two of them shared.
We’d sit, wait for “ze Pasquale” to walk through the door, and once you did, we’d eat, laugh, and just enjoy being together. Those were simple moments, but they were golden.
At the time, I was working part-time at Williams Sonoma, and I had a great discount there. What surprised me—though maybe it shouldn’t have—was how much Uncle Pat appreciated quality.
For a man who loved to hunt and lived simply, he had layers to him. He had a real eye for beautiful things—he’d light up at a good pot or a finely made tablecloth. And more than once, he’d say, “OK, pick that up for me. Pick that one too.”
He’d be so proud of himself, smiling as he imagined bringing it home to Aunt Ada. It was sweet, and it said so much: underneath that simple, rugged side was a man who paid attention, who cared deeply, and who loved to give.
You carried a lot in this life—losing your father young, then your mother, your brothers, your sister… nieces and nephews… and just five months ago, your biggest loss: Patrick, your son.
That kind of grief leaves a mark, yet you still showed up with love, with warmth, with that unique spirit of yours.
Now, you’re with all of them again. Reunited. And while our hearts ache, we’ll carry the memories of you with love and gratitude.
Rest in peace, Uncle Pat.
With love always,
Your niece,
Lina Casuscelli
P.S. If you see Mom, my brother, Nonna and Nonno, and all our uncles and cousins up there — give them a big hug from me.
