Nicholas (Nick) Niro

February 2, 2011 By Egan Funeral Home 55 Condolences

Nicholas

(1946-2011)

Nick died suddenly on Saturday, January 29, 2011, while on holiday in North Caicos with his loving wife, Mary.  Nick will be dearly missed by his wife Mary; his daughters, Laura and Richard, Nadia and Brian, Michelle and Ken; and his grandchildren, Hannah, Caitlyn, Madelin, Emily and Natalie whom he loved more than words can express.  Loving son of Elvira and the late Giovanni Niro.  Fondly remembered by his father-in-law Mario.  He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.   As the former owner of Caledon East IGA, Nick always had a big smile and a friendly greeting.  He enjoyed his work and being a part of the community.   He will be remembered by his generous spirit, his strong work ethic and most importantly, for his love of his family and friends.  Although our loss is deep, our love and our memories are far greater.  He left an indelible mark on all those who knew him.

The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Tuesday afternoon 2 – 4 and evening 7 – 9 o’clock.  Funeral Mass will be held in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 16066 The Gore Road, Caledon East on Wednesday morning, February 9 at 11 o’clock (leaving funeral home at 10:15 a.m.).  Interment St. John’s Cemetery.  Parish prayers will be held Tuesday evening at 8:45 o’clock.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Trillium Health Centre Foundation, 100 Queensway West, Mississauga L5B 1B8, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com.

    Mary & family,

As a longtime customer of the Caledon East IGA, I was both saddened and shocked to learn of Nick’s passing. I recall seeing him just a few weeks ago and as always, there was a warm greeting. Our little community was quite fortunate to have a ‘local grocer’ who knew his customers by name and took time to chat with them. These simple acts added to the small town feel that Caledon East residents love. Nick consistently went above and beyond for his customers and his community.

On behalf of myself and my mother Bev, please accept our heartfelt sympathy. Our thoughts are with you.

The world has truly lost a great man. I have not seen Nick in many years and am truly saddened to have heard of his passing. As a former employee of Caledon East IGA (1993-1998), I can honestly say that it was a pleasure to go to work everyday and see the passion with which Nick ran his store. He was always willing to lend a tidbit of advice or help out with a favour. I have very fond memories of my time at Caledon East IGA and of my childhood in Caledon East. Nick played a role in helping to create some of those positive memories. I will never forget the long conversations we would have together while drving to the bank on Saturday nights. Nick was a very perceptive man and I truly appreciated his viewpoint on life. He will be missed.

Niro Family,. please accept my sincerest condolences at this time. Your loss in the world’s loss…and the world has lost a fantastic human being. My thoughts are prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. Stay strong and god bless.

On behalf of our families, we would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies on the loss of a trusted colleague and friend.

Nick was a warm and generous individual who we first had the privilege to know on many an occasion as our retail link with Oshawa Foods.

His unbending work ethic combined with genuine love of people
saw his vision of ownership in the IGA family come to pass. His success was no surprise to us.

    He will be missed.
