Maureen Anne Cicinelli (née Reid)

February 28, 2025 By Egan Funeral Home 50 Condolences

Cicinelli Web

We celebrate the life of Maureen Anne Cicinelli (née Reid), who passed away peacefully on February 27, 2025, surrounded by her family. A dedicated wife, mother, educator, and friend, Maureen touched countless lives with her kindness and generosity.

Maureen was a gifted elementary school teacher, devotedly serving the York Catholic District School Board for over 35 years, most recently at St. Cecilia Catholic Elementary School in Maple. There, her greatest joys were fostering students’ passion for reading and mentoring fellow educators. Her classroom was famous–a magical space where creativity, imagination, and curiosity flourished, inspiring a lifelong love of learning in both children and adults who passed through her door.

Faith was another pillar in Maureen’s life, and she humbly volunteered with her church community in many roles, such as lector and leader of children’s liturgy. She had a special devotion to St. Thérèse of Lisieux and her “little way,” embracing the beauty of small acts of love done with great kindness.

She was most at peace at her cottage in Eugenia and cabin on Kashwakamak Lake, where she enjoyed quiet mornings by the fire, sunny afternoons on the dock, and happy evenings gathered around the table with friends and family. A talented cook and gracious host, Maureen had a gift for bringing people together, whether through beautifully prepared holiday feasts or simple meals made with care.

Above all, Maureen was a caring wife and mother. She nurtured her family with warmth, patience, and a deep well of love that will sustain them forever. She is survived by her loving husband Frank, her children, Erin (Jeff), Aislinn (William), and Alexander (Faith), and her unborn granddaughter, who we trust will be surrounded by Maureen’s protection and loving embrace throughout her life.

Family and friends are invited to honor Maureen’s life at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Wednesday, March 5 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.

Funeral Mass will be held in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 16066 The Gore Rd, Caledon on Thursday, March 6 at 11 am.

A private interment will follow at a later date.

In memory of Maureen, please consider a donation to St. Cecilia Catholic Elementary School (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/york-catholic-district-school-board/, please select St. Cecilia CES from the menu).

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Maureen was such a special person in my life—first as my teacher, but most importantly as a dear friend. She truly believed in me, and I will always be grateful for the kindness and encouragement she showed me. Her friendship with my mom was something truly special, and our family will always cherish the memories we shared.
When I had the privilege of supplying in her classroom, I witnessed firsthand the incredible learning environment she created—one that nurtured curiosity, wonder, and a love of discovery in every child. She had a gift for making others feel seen and valued, and her impact will live on in the countless lives she touched.
She will forever hold a place in my heart and in my family’s.

This is so extremely difficult to write. Maureen’s passion for nurturing a love for learning was so palpable and inspiring. Ms. Cicinelli treated her students as her very own. This was evident by the glowing smile and humble pride that would accompany every ‘kindie’ story she shared. Maureen was a cheerleader for each and every child blessed to have her as a teacher. Her classroom was a truly magical place and Maureen was there to offer each child endless encouragement, support, and love. Every parent and colleague would agree, wholeheartedly.

Maureen touched the hearts of so very many; and we take a little solace in knowing that Heaven’s kindergarten is in great hands with its newest angel.

Sending our sincerest condolences to Maureen’s entire family.

    Love always,

    Fab & Daniela Nardo

    Dear Cicinelli Family,

    Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
Ms.Cicinelli was a gift to every child she taught, including our 2 children in their Kindergarten years. We were so blessed that she was their teacher in their first years of school.
Author, Peter H. Reynolds of the famous children’s book, “The Dot” was a Ms.Cicinelli favourite, which taught each child to leave their mark. She left her mark in our children, fostering the love of school and connection to nature in the forest. Ms. Cicinelli also left an everlasting mark in our hearts with the memories she made for the families through her Mother’s Day Tea and Father’s Day Celebrations.

God bless her beautiful soul and your family. May she rest in peace.

    To my beloved family,

Maureen has always held a special place in my heart. She embodied the virtues of grace, humility, authenticity, purity, generosity, kindness and gentleness. Every conversation we shared was accompanied by a certain quality of genuinity and warmth that struck me each time. Such a wonderful soul inside and out – she did not go unnoticed. I know God has a greater purpose for his angel Maureen in heaven. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you.” – Joshua 1:9.

I am heartbroken by the news of Maureen’s passing. As a fellow teacher, principal and Superintendent with YCDSB, I have many special memories of Maureen. She was an exceptional educator who met the needs of all her students with her nurturing, gentle way. She encouraged her students to explore, take risks, search for answers in their own way. When I had the amazing opportunity to open a new school (St. Cecilia CEC), I knew who the person would be to lead the large Kindergarten Division. Maureen made me proud. We had so much fun ordering furniture, resources for the classes. Her classroom was the most inviting classroom. She inspired wonder and awe in her students. Whenever I felt like I needed a break, I would end up in Maureen’s classroom sitting at a table reading with students by the warm glow of a lamplight. Maureen was a lead teacher for the Kindergarten division and many a teacher came to visit her classroom to learn from Maureen. Her students benefited the most from her philosophy of education. She was loved. She taught one of my sons in Kindergarten, and he still speaks of the experiences Maureen created for her students. Maureen was an exceptional, valued staff member who got along with everyone, who collaborated with staff for special events, and who was always in service to others. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. She is now in the peace and joy of God’s kingdom. May you find peace and comfort in the many cherished memories of Maureen that will forever remain in your heart.

My deepest condolences to the family during this most difficult time.
Maureen was always so calm and never hesitated to help, invite and include new teachers as an educator, even in her early years at Father John Kelly. I will never forget how she included me in her planning sessions at her house. I wish I had kept one of her unique drawings/inspirational notes. May she rest in peace knowing she has inspired many students and educators over the years.

Ms. Cicinelli was my grade 1 teacher in 1998. Some of my earliest school memories are from being in her class and learning new songs and poems that I can still recite to this day. I have the duotang, filled with those songs and poems, that I kept all these years and share them with my small children. My deepest condolences to her family. May she rest in peace.

    March 3, 2025 at 9:53 pm

Our family is deeply saddened by the news of Ms Cicinelli’s passing. She has a special place in our hearts as the best kindergarten teacher our son could have ever had. Pietro came home from school sad and crying after he found out about her passing. Now in grade 6, he hasn’t forgotten the walks to the park and the hot chocolate she had prepared for the whole class. The fun afternoons playing at the snow, when most of the other students were inside. The book she mailed for his birthday during school vacations. The tea party she prepared for Mother’s Day. The tradition she created for Christmas time when every student would take turns taking home a Nativity scene. So many memories that makes us think she was an angel sent to guide our son on his 2 first years at school. I know God has a special place for her, because of the way she impacted others around her with love, kindness and dedication. Our condolences to the family.

I first met Maureen when we worked at the same school, many years ago. During this time, I developed such a high respect for this beautiful woman, both as a teacher and as a human being. I witnessed the way she touched the lives of every child, who was lucky enough to be placed in her classroom. Stepping foot into her classroom, you immediately felt a sense of calm. You could see and feel the love that was put into every detail of that space. All were welcomed with open arms into that space, both children and adults alike. Maureen was a model of kindness, compassion and faith. She was a beautiful, thoughtful and caring individual. I know that she will be deeply missed by all those who loved her. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family. I pray that God’s peace and comfort surrounds you, during this very difficult time.

I met Maureen at Father John Kelly Catholic Elementary School, many years ago, when I would go collect the kindergarten children in her class for lunch dismissal. There was always singing and joyful sounds coming from her class. I was amazed even at that time at what a wonderful caring ,nurturing teacher she was to her young students. Later as I worked as a substitute E.C.E. in her classroom, I was witness to her very special gifts as an educator. She was equally kind and respectful to myself as a professional, and even though I was her senior, she was an inspiration to me as both a professional and friend. I am very sorry to here of her passing, and wish to express my deepest sympathy to her family and friends.
