    Lynda and family

I am saddened to hear of Alan’s passing. We were childhood friends who lost contact with each other in our adult lives. I read with interest the condolences above, many of which were written by people who knew him recently. Alan’s consistent and strong character has not changed throughout his too-short life. Even as a child he was inclusive welcoming and fair. I know he will be missed.

Al always made life more interesting merely with his presence, and will always be remembered as being a most sincere, jovial and accomodating fellow. 26. Ted Westbrook

    January 22, 2011 at 3:13 pm

It is so not fair that the village of Nobleton has lost, far too early, our ALEEBEE, kid brother of Ron. The Kaake family, the Hills, the Emersons, the Longs, the Browns, the Sampsons, the Mactaggerts… and it goes on… we were like one family. We kids never had a chance of getting away with diddle squat. We have lost another amazing and special kid from our generation. To Lynda, Jamie, Vanessa, Jodi, Mike, Carter and Jailyn, Ron and Russ… he will make one heck of a devilish angel.
Love and our thoughts from the Westbrook family, Eva, Olav, Phil, Ted, and Dick

Al and I went all through school together, right from 1956 through to when we graduated High School at King City.
All through Public School we both vied for ‘Top Student’ each year. Each year I beat him by a hair and he was always gracious and generous. At the Grade 8 Graduation, I was named Valedictorian and expected to win Top Student also. As they announced the winner, I stood up to get the award and they announced Al’s name. Of course I was devastated. He grabbed my hand and said ‘you should have it-I am giving it to you.’ When my Dad asked Jean Goodfellow why I didn’t get named as Top Student she said it was because of my attitude. We laughed about it afterwards and many times we would meet in the halls of KCSS and Al would ask me how my ‘attitude’ was doing!
He always was a great guy – generous, kind, fair and the same to everyone-what better commendation can you give a guy than that!

    Dear Lynda and family,

I’m so terribly sorry receive the news of Alan’s death. I have a lifetime of memories of Alan, Murray, and all of you that ran as support staff taking messages and so on during busy farming days. I will miss him terribly but I feel so fortunate to have been blessed with knowing him as a friend. I have no doubt that there is a special place in Heaven for such a fine man and I’m sure he will be with his loved parents there.

It is so hard to believe that we won’t ever see Al again but all of our memories will keep us smiling forever and you know we have a lot of them…. the guys playing hockey and baseball together and all of us going to parties, dances, showers, stags, weddings and yes funerals and of coarse playing cards and loosing every time to Earl and Al because you and I were talking too much and raising our children and grandchildren together. It was quite a ride for Al but he did it with grace and dignity and never gave up. God needed another angel and what an angel he will be.

Take care Lynda and all of your family and you know we love you a lot.

I was so sad to read of Al’s passing, but heartened to hear that he was able to spend his last days at Bethel House. Al and I talked some time ago about his struggle against cancer, and he impressed me with his strength and positive attitude. He kept going, kept fighting, kept living. He died way too soon, but he certainly seemed to have lived well in the time he had. My condolances to Jamie and all of the family, and to the Hillbillies ball club.

    Lynda,
I knew Al from Monday night hockey. We played on the same team a few times. I remember how Al could turn his feet sideways and turn in a circle practically. He is the only guy I have ever played with or against that I have seen do that. Sorry to hear of his passing away. I live in British Columbia now but someone told my sister Kerri, who works as a cashier at Zehrs, that I might have known Al. My condolences to you and the rest of your family.
