Helen Tsimidis (Efraimia Monaxi)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Efraimia Monaxi (Eleni) who was called to the Lord on June 26, 2025.
Efraimia was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Stylianos ten years ago.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Markos, Nikolaos (Eleni), and Kelly (Greg), her blessed grandchildren that she loved so deeply, Stephen, George, Maria (Constantine), Michael and Jordan, and many beloved relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her siblings Evridiki, Andreas, Fani, Kostas, and Maria.
Efraimia was born in Elatos, Greece in 1934, the youngest child of Nikolaos and Efstathia Mercouris. As a young girl she trained as a seamstress and brought her craft to Canada in 1954. She met Stylianos in May 1961 and, in a whirlwind, they were married that September.
The matriarch of the family, she guided all those around her by living a life led by love and a devotion to our Lord, Jesus Christ. God was the centre of our family and life. Together, Mom and Dad built a wonderful home for their family, filled with faith and love.
As a talented seamstress, Efraimia sewed all her own clothes, including her own engagement dress, wedding dress and those of her bridesmaids. Over the years, she dressed her daughters and granddaughter, and many relatives and friends in perfectly tailored, one-of-a-kind outfits. How lucky were we to have our own designer and seamstress.
Mom loved to care for her family, keeping her own garden which produced bumper crops annually. Fresh salads and homemade cooking were always in abundance. She also loved baking and her delicacies kept us all well fed. Her gemista, koulourakia and diples were legendary. There was never any question that everything she made included a heaping cup or two of love.
Later in life, Efraimia was tonsured a nun and lived her remaining years with a deeper dedication to prayer and obedience to Gerontissa Alexia.
We have lost our angel on earth, but now she is surely among the angels in heaven praying for us all.
We wish to thank Dr. Steven Rubenzahl, Mom’s GP for many years who cared for her up to her final days, along with the kind staff of Humber River Hospital (12W and 7W) and Baycrest Hospital (7W).
The family will receive their friends at Saint Kosmas Aitolos Greek Orthodox Monastery, 14155 Caledon King Townline South, Bolton, on Wednesday morning, July 2 from 9 o’clock until time of funeral service in the Monastery at 11:30 a.m. Interment Sanctuary Park, 1570 Royal York Road, Etobicoke.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Sisters of Saint Kosmas Aitolos Greek Orthodox Monastery (stkam.org). Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

Hi Nick & Family,
We are saddened to hear about the passing of your mother. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
Though her physical presence may no longer be with you, know that her energy—her essence—has not disappeared; it has simply transformed. In the field of energy, nothing is ever truly lost, only changed. Her love, wisdom, and the imprints she made on your life remain vibrationally alive within you and around you.
As you and the family move forward, may you find peace in knowing that the bond between you and your mother exists beyond time and space. And may her memory continue to guide and elevate you on your journey. Jason & Samina
