
On Thursday, March 6, 2025, Giovanni Stangherlin passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side. Giovanni was the beloved husband of Nadia for 47 years. He was the loving father of Stephanie, Andrew (Kaleigh), and Sonia (Jesse). He was the proud nonno of Archer and Alessio. Predeceased by his Parents Terzo Stangherlin and Olga (Civiero). Dear brother of Romano (Ivana), Danilo (Lara), Joe (Rose) and predeceased by sister Maria and brother Emilio. Loving son-in-law of Angela Sfreddo. Dear brother-in-law of Sandra (Mario) Marcucci. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy.
Giovanni was born in Castello di Godego on January 26, 1950. He came to Canada in 1969 at the age of 19. He treasured his family, his friends and neighbours. Giovanni enjoyed the outdoors and vacationing in tropical destinations. Cycling and hiking were some of his favourite activities. He was an avid soccer fan and volunteered with the local soccer association. He also loved to barbecue for his family and friends and was always up for a good card game.
Giovanni was a dedicated ironworker, a welder by trade. He worked at various steel companies, including Tresman Steel and most recently at Lorvin Steel, where he earned his 40 years service plaque from the Local 721.
The family will receive friends at Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen St. S. (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Wednesday, March 12, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Liturgical funeral service will take place in the chapel at 10:00 am. Reception to follow in the funeral home from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Following the reception, entombment will take place at Glendale Memorial Gardens, 1810 Albion Road, Etobicoke.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family. Donations may be made at the funeral home.
