Peacefully at Avalon Care Centre, Orangeville, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, Mary (née Demko), in her 93rd year, beloved wife of the late Bruce Thompson. Loving mother of Sharon and her husband Peter Hiscott, Petawawa; Janet and her husband Thomas Burns, Toronto; Jacqueline and her husband Wolf Hofmann, Owen Sound; Bruce and his wife Boni Thompson, Orangeville. Cherished grandmother of Katherine, and Jennifer; Angela, and Bryan; Matthew, and Jessica; Meg, Gabrielle, Anna, Dominque, Bruce, and Eamonn. Dear great-grandmother of Lauren, Conor, Teagan, Sloane, Rhys, Jocalyn, Liam, and Luke. Dear sister of Irene and her husband Don Hall. Beloved friend of many at the Avalon Care Centre. Mary was a beautiful person; generous, full of love and loved by all. She had a long and full life.
Mary was born in North Portal, Saskatchewan. Although the family moved to Toronto when Mary was very young, she loved returning to Saskatchewan every summer to spend time with her grand-parents. In 1945 she married Bruce, the love of her life, in Toronto and they were blessed with four healthy children. Mary retired as the Supervisor, Data Entry at Crown Life in 1982. When Bruce retired in 1985, they moved on a permanent basis to the family “cottage” in Holland Centre. Following an illness, Mary and Bruce lived briefly in Owen Sound before moving to the Avalon Care Centre in 2007.
A funeral service was held in the chapel at the Egan Funeral Home Baxter & Giles Chapel, 273 Broadway, Orangeville (519-941-2630) on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 1:30 o’clock. Followed by cremation.
