Passed peacefully at his residence in Brampton Sunny Meadows, on Sunday, October 27, 2013, John Marshall, formerly of Orangeville, in his 85th year, beloved husband of the late Patricia Stubbs. Loving father of Tara and her husband Ian Bain of Aberdeen, Scotland, Michael and his wife Mary-Catherine of Pittsford, New York. Cherished grandfather of Megan and Madison Marshall. Dear brother of Gerry (deceased), Gordon and Robert Marshall.
John’s public service included over 25 years at the Orangeville Post Office and several years as a volunteer firefighter. He was an active member of the congregation of Westminster United Church, serving as Treasurer for many years. His retirement years were enriched by his volunteer work with South Simcoe Railway and by summers spent at Caledon Lake.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home Baxter & Giles Chapel, 273 Broadway, Orangeville (519-941-2630) on Sunday afternoon 2 – 4 and evening 7 – 9 o’clock. Funeral service will be held in Westminster United Church, 247 Broadway, Orangeville on Monday, November 4 at one o’clock. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. When I think of John I think of Caledon Lake and Sunday afternoons. He was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed long conversations and laughter. He was also quite found of his Moose Head and whatever mom was serving up for a snack! John always greeted our boys with a smile and would remember with great detail their last visit and what was going on with them. We will miss him. Sending our heartfelt condolences. John was an ardent supporter of Westminster United Church, where I met him years ago, and he was a joy in conversation. He always told me when he had last seen my brother at South Simcoe Railway, and he was struck by how much we look alike. I am sure that he was equally supportive of his family and other friends. He generated many good memories.

Knowing your Dad and sharing many meals with him was always a pleasure. Seeing him walk through our door with his tweed jacket and big smile ready to share a few drinks, a meal and always great stories will be remembered. I came to know John as a volunteer for the South Simcoe Railway. I am saddened to hear he has reached lifes ‘end of track’.
He was a true gentleman, of kind and helpful disposition. I don’t recall him ever saying a bad word about anyone. One of my fondest memories of John is the Saturday lunches we would enjoy at the Cedar Kitchen restaurant in Tottenham where he always ordered the same thing, ham and scram, home fries and coffee.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Heaven is a better place for his being there.

We met your Dad and enjoyed church services and Men’s Club of Westminster United Church with him. Our grandsons, Wylie and Brier, loved the “Mr. Marshall” they knew as the flag man of the old steam engine “136”. How they loved those special conversations, usually about trains, with their friend. We love those memories!

I came to know your father when I came to Orangeville as the senior letter carrier when they started door to door delivery. After a short time I joined the volunteer fire department and worked alongside John until he retired. In all this time I always remember him as being a kind gentle person.
