Peacefully, with her daughter Lynn at her side, at King Nursing Home, Bolton on Saturday, December 26, 2015, Ruby Alberta Westlake, in her 96th year, beloved wife of the late James Albert Norris. Loving mother of Lynn Norris and fondly remembered by Ziggy Felske. Dear sister of the late Bessie, Bert, and Frank Westlake. Remembered by first, second and third generation of nieces and nephews. Ruby was born on the family farm, Plum Valley Farm, in 1920 and was married in 1945 one room to the east of the room she was born in. The farm was located on the 5th Line, Albion Township and it was a typical mixed farm with Shorthorn cattle and turned into a Master Breeder Award for the Holstein cattle. Ruby attended the original Macville Public School and then continued at Bolton Continuation School. After high school, she lived with her Aunt Sadie and Uncle Will in Bolton in the 1940s. During the war she worked in Malton as a riveter. Ruby described James as “A young man I always knew” and they were married in May 1945. After they were married, she moved three miles south of her family farm to the Norris farm. Ruby loved to sing and was honoured to sing at her brother Frank’s, and cousin Eleanor’s weddings. She enjoyed singing in the choir at Bolton United Church. She spent 500 hours of volunteer time at Peel Manor, Brampton. Ruby enjoyed her weekly euchure games at Bolton Seniors Centre and drove her friends to card games in Hockley. For many years Ruby bowled on a league in Bolton and baked great Christmas cookies. Ruby was a great-great-aunt. Most of all, her pride and joy was her home.
