Oct. 13, 1927 – Sept. 10, 2016

With heavy hearts and full of love, the family of Grant Burroughes announces the peaceful passing of our dearly beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather, and uncle on Sept. 10, 2016 in Brampton Civic Hospital.

Grant married Jean in 1954 and they spent 50 years together. He was a beef farmer throughout most of his life.  And as leader in his industry at the time, he was on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Cattlemen’s Association and sat on the Executive Board of Toronto Stockyards.  He served on the Board of CanFax, Toronto, a cattle market report agency.

Grant loved the good things in life.  His family, many friends, and the active social life he and Jean had.  His love for riding horses, his English setters, black lab dogs, and spending time at the family cottage on Pennisula Lake in Muskoka.

Grant is survived by his three wonderful children, son, Gary (Lori) of Orangeville. Ontario, daughter Diane of Calgary, Alberta, daughter Gail (Paul) of Sylvan Lake, Alberta. His very special grandchildren, David, Gordon, Kelly, Carla and Ian, and great grandchildren Ellie and Sarah, his niece and nephews and other relatives.

Grant was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth (Bessie) & Frank, his wife Jean and his sister Anne.

A tribute to Grant will be held at Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen St. South (Hwy. 50) Bolton at 3 p.m., on Thurs. September 15, 2016.  A light lunch will follow.  A private burial is on September 16 at the family cemetery in Edgar at 1 pm.

If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides  www.dogguides.com

On behalf of the BFO Board of Directors and staff, please accept my condolences for your family’s loss. Diane and family,

Though I met your dad only once, knowing you tells me much about your parents.

My favourite Robert Frost poem “The Road Not Taken” succinctly summarizes what his life must have been:

“and I, I took the one less travelled by,
and that has made all the difference.”

Gary and Lori – my condolences to you – I remember meeting your father many years ago. He was truly a “gentleman” in every way. Keep all his good memories with you during these difficult times.

    Much love,

Grant worked for us at Home Hardware for a few years in his retirement. He was in charge of the plumbing department, always showing a positive and happy demeanour. We enjoyed having him as part of our “Home” family.

My condolences to the Burroughes family. I am so very sorry for your loss. Even though I did not know Grant, I did work with his son Gary at Brampton Transit for four years. Keep the memories close to your heart and know he will always be with you. May he rest in peace.

Grant came on the Board of the Ontario Cattlemen’s Association in the early 1970’s. His interest was in cattle marketing and getting best prices for all cattlemen. I enjoyed working with Grant. He liked a party and at that time formed a friends triumvirate with Stewart Brown and Ron Oswald. All three became Presidents of OCA in the early/mid 1970’s.
My condolences to Diane, Gail and Gary and their families. For my own health reasons, I will not be able to attend visitation or funeral.

I offer my condolences. I valued my associations with Grant, especially during the years he worked with me as the Market Analyst for Canfax. As Graeme Hedley has already noted Grant had a keen and well informed interest in the cattle industry and contributed much during his time on the Board of the OCA and as a market analyst.

Our condolences to Gary, who served for many years as a volunteer with Bolton Ambulance. Although we were not fortunate enough to know Grant, it sounds like he had a fantastic life.

Sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I remember learning to water ski at the cottage. “You have three chances to do it, and that’s all”. I just hear about it today, when I was out of town today. Our hearts and prayers are with you and your family during this very hard time.
