Peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, George McPhee, Adjala, in his 69th year. Loving father of Rylan McPhee. Dear brother of John, Brenda and predeceased by Donald and Susan. A do it yourself hard worker who found his peace in nature through fishing and hunting. George had a unique way of creating approaches to solve any requirement in any situation ….. just build it. So in a full life, strong by his convictions with integrity, lead by example, he’s proven that it’s not always about the buck.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the family home, located at 13454 6th Line, Nassagaweya on Saturday afternoon, March 2 from 1 – 4 o’clock.

Having recently read in the Toronto star of George McPhee’s passing, I was instantly reminded of listening with great pleasure to a piper of that name playing solo in the Sandhill area , around 1970 or 1971. Around 20 or so, he had strong, expressive fingering of a couple of more challenging to play strathspeys and I vividly recall being impressed with both his talent and obvious dedication to the music of the Gael. Unfortunately, it was too brief an encounter, but I sensed his magic that summer’s evening long ago!

Shocked and very sad to hear of Georges passing. I met with George often over the last 9 years but unfortunately hadn’t seen him in over a year. I loved our visits and was the lucky recipient of fish George had caught on many occasions.

I learned of George’s passing from my son Michael just yesterday . George and I attended Bolton Public school and often spoke of old school chums and family. I was fortunate to spend time in the outdoors with George . He was an amazing angler and hunter who loved his time with nature. Together we did our first wilderness winter camping trip in the 1970’s by heading to Shining Tree in northern Ontario. An experience we both revisited often . George was a unique character who marched to his own drum. He will be greatly missed.
