    To Wendy, Kate and Ainsley,

I hardly know where to begin. Fred and I were very close at Guelph. He was an usher at my first wedding, Remind me sometime to tell you the story of how he almost knocked over the bridal party like bowling pins! Though we had not seen much of each other the last couple of decades (what with me living on the other side of the world), whenever we did speak it was as if no time at all had passed. I don’t think it’s overstating it too much to say that I loved him like a brother. I was so sorry to hear of his illness, but it did push me to call. He seemed like his old self when we spoke last weekend, and therefore his passing was all the more shocking. I can’t be there for the service, but my deepest condolences are with you. He will be sorely missed.

Our sympathy and prayers during this difficult time. HannahClaire’s first comment was, “But he was so funny.” Fred will always be remembered by us as a wonderful, generous, funny guy that was a fabulous neighbour and Godfather to Quinlan. We were fortunate to know him, to work with him at the church and to always have a laugh with him. Fred will always be remembered in our hearts. All our love, Deirdre, Quinlan and HannahClaire Fowler. xxx

Our family remembers Fred as a peg legged pirate in Treasure Island at Caledon Town Hall Players! Such a great sense of humour! Remember how he had to tie his leg up so that he looked like he was missing a leg! That deep gravelly voice! He’ll be very missed. I agree with everyone else that he was always so funny and made everyone smile! So very sorry for your loss

    January 20, 2015 at 5:17 pm

    To Wendy, Kate, Ainsley

Sorry for your loss. Fred and I were first cousins and I guess it would have been around 1968 that I last saw him. I recall a number of family reunions at Rouge Hills when my grandparents (Fred & Mary Bilton) were alive, Fred’s father, George, named Fred after his father. I live in Australia and will be unable to attend the funeral. My mother, Betty, is visiting us at the moment so will also be unable to attend. I believe my brother Garry is going to attend. On behalf of Fred’s kin Ron, Bob, Garry, Ted, (Len & Betty), Patricia and Pam (Lloyd and Alice), David and Cathy (Jack and Olive) I again offer my condolences.

I am so saddened by the sudden loss of dear Fred. It seems like yesterday when Wendy introduced me to her new ” boyfriend” at a party she had years ago. In walked this tall handsome guy…fresh off the slopes ( he had worked late that night as a ski instructor). I will never forget the look in their eyes and could tell that this was something special. In the years to come, I would share many happy moments with Wendy and Fred : their wedding, a christening , visits up north and many more. I came to know Fred as a witty, kind and caring man. He could always crack me up and we shared many a silly moment. He was a devoted and loyal husband to my dear friend Wendy and a caring and loving father to Ainsley and Kate. I will cherish these memories forever.
My deepest condolences to Wendy, Kate, Ainsley and family.

    March 8, 2016 at 2:46 am

Dear Wendy, Kate and Ainsley. Mel and I are so sorry to hear of Fred’s passing. Although we didn’t see you that often in the last couple of years we often thought about the fun times we had with you Wendy and Fred at our Scandinavian Parties in Brampton. Fred was such a fun loving person and always pulling my leg until I became wise enough to know when it was being pulled! Fred also called our son Robin just last year as he had seen his name somewhere on the internet about his jazz and had a great conversation with him about his music. We still remember the good old days when Fred would play piano at our parties and we’d all sing Christmas carols. Fred and Mel also went skiing up at Horseshoe for many years as we had a time share in that area but as we lost our special rat e for skiing then the guys gave it up! As you know Wendy we live in Europe over the winter but had we been in Canada we would have come to pay our condolences to you and your family. Mel and hope that your loving memories of Fred will carry through this difficult time, we send you all our love and hope that you will find support with all of the lovely and kind friends and family that you and Fred have made over the many years.
