Elizabeth

Peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, at Victoria Village, Barrie, on Saturday, October 6, 2012, Elizabeth Anne Barnes (nee Gardiner), formerly of Woodbridge, beloved wife of the late Peter Barnes. Dear mother of Theresa Burke, Peter Barnes (deceased), Kathryn and Dr. Stephen Cartan, Tim Barnes and Brenda, Victoria and Raymond Shepherd, Warren Barnes, Anne and Glenn Hilliard, John Barnes and Peggy. Adored grandmother of Gideon, Rachel and Madeline; Randy, Tom, Holly, Kate, James and Elizabeth; Sarah and Charlotte, Sarah and James; Cody and Carly; Peter, Paul and Alex; Jessica and Jake; Bryan, James, Emily, Ryan, Michael, Devin and Kristen. Proud great-grandmother of Jack, Ryleigh, Ben, Bronwyn, Rhys, Cole, Scarlett and one expected in February 2013. Dear sister of Les Gardiner and predeceased by Fred, Frances and Gail. Mom, you were smart, funny, loving, loyal, strong and, above all else, kind. We are so blessed to have had you as a mother, and the world is a better place for you being in it. We came across the quote “In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make” and it couldn’t be more fitting for you. Our sincere thanks to Pievey and all of Mom’s Caregivers at Victoria Village for taking such good care of our Mom.

The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) for a celebration of Lib’s life on Friday, October 12 from 11 o’clock until time of memorial service in the chapel at one o’clock. Interment to immediately follow at Beechwood Cemetery, Concord (Jane St, North of Steeles Ave).

If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Rick Hansen Institute for Spinal Cord Injury Research, 6400 – 818 West 10th Avenue, Blusson Spinal Cord Centre, Vancouver, British Columbia V5Z 1M9. On behalf of the Class of 54′,I want to say how sorry we all are for Libby’s passing. We only wish we had been able to find her- as each year we have a luncheon and continue to send out news of the class to everyone we can.

I will be sending a donation to the Heart and Stroke in her memory from the class.

We have talked about her frequently and I am so sorry we couldn’t find her! As a matter of fact, I drove through Brighton this summer – and remember she and I went horseback riding – and I fell off!! The one and only time on a horse!! What fun we had!!

We all loved her kindness and wonderful sense of humour and on our 55th class reunion we had a cake with all our grad pictures on it
    – so she was not forgotten!

Such a beautiful obituary for a beautiful lady! Perfectly describes her. I have very fond memories of her and your dad when we were kids always over at your house in Pine Grove playing. The big house was always filled with love and laughter. We’re sorry we couldn’t be with you today but please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. She will be missed but she is reflected in all of you through all that she shared with you, especially her smile. Hugs.
