Carmine Carbone

February 5, 2021 By Egan Funeral Home 232 Condolences

Carbone webframe

It is with profound sadness that we announce that God called Carmine Carbone who peacefully passed on February 5, 2021 at the age of 83.   Carmine immigrated to Canada at the young age of 17, to pursue new beginnings and fulfill his dreams. In 1958 he married Agata, whom he endearingly called his “girlfriend” for the past 62 years. Together they raised a family, son Piero and daughters Linda and Dianne.  Carmine was positive, passionate and powerful. Small but mighty, he was a true businessman who led him to his dream of starting his business of Garden Foods in 1972. In 1981, he opened Garden Foods in Bolton. He proudly served his community and he will forever be admired and respected for the relationships that he established with his friends at the Ontario Food Terminal and small independent grocers. He was a mentor to his Garden Foods family – young and old, providing life lessons to all. One of Carmine’s greatest joys was being able to work along-side of his grandchildren and family as they continue his legacy. He instilled good work ethics, the importance of pursuing dreams and always putting family first.   Carmine’s leisure time was spent travelling, golfing, making wine with his grandsons and cultivating his garden.   Carmine will forever be loved by his dear wife Agata. Deeply missed by his children Piero (Rose), Linda (Paul) and Dianne (Frank). He will always be in the hearts of his amazing grandchildren Marc Anthony (Danielle), Joseph (Alessia), Alexandrea, Lisa Marie, Gian Luca and Vincent. He will be held dear in the hearts of his family, relatives and many friends.    His bright smile and “super duper” attitude will be missed by all.

A private family funeral service will be held at Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Monday, February 8 at 12 noon.   The family invites those who wish to view the service to do so through live streaming at

Carmine was a pillar in the community. From the first day I stepped into Garden Foods 37 years ago, he welcome us as family. Always cheerful and pleasant. One of many occasions while shopping you could see Carmine patiently teaching the new young workers the difference between the various beans, eggplants etc.. He instilled respect of customers and also food. Later when he ‘retired’ you would continue to see him welcoming and talking to customers as family and friends. As we did ourselves, we would continue to hear customers ask Piero about his dad. Carmine, you will forever be in our thoughts and prayers now and forever.
Our sincerest condolences to the Carbone family.

I met Carmine 16 years ago when I started working at Garden foods. I remember him teaching me many things. He often joked such as when he asked me if I was praying when I was on my knees while filling the bottom shelves. I remember at Garden Foods Christmas celebrations he would dance to the song “Resputin” in his 70s, but moving like a young man. I remember when he would make espressos for many of the workers in the store as a way of showing his gratitude for their hard work. We will miss Carmine’s humour, wisdom, and positivity. My condolences to the Carbone family.

Uncle Carmine was one of the few that could put a smile on our father’s face and everyone else for that matter. We always enjoyed his company and passion for life. A very dedicated family man with a strong work ethic that set an example for us all. We loved his antics at the Carbone picnics and family gatherings. He was highly regarded in the community, at Garden Foods and The Ontario Food Terminal. Always generous, joyous and ready to share a lifetime of wonderful stories. We will sorely miss him.

    To the Carbone Family ,

Our deepest condolences for this tremendous loss.
It was such a pleasure working for the Carbone family. It was always a joy to see Carmine’s contagious smile walking around and socializing with all staff and customers. I will always remember him walking into my department and him not having to say a word and I would already know he was coming for his Espresso and lunch, but always with that smile . He will be truly missed but his legacy will continue to thrive through his wonderful family .
May you find strength and comfort in eachother and remember all the good times.
It’s never good bye but see you later.
    Lots of love xo

Dear Agata, Piero, Dianne, Linda and family,

I was so sorry to hear about Carmine’s passing.

I think of you all often and fondly remember my days working with you at Garden Foods when it first opened in Bolton so many years ago. Although I was an employee, Carmine and Agata always made me feel like I was part of the family working alongside Piero and Dianne. I was blessed to have had them as my first “bosses” and I learned so much from them both.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. May you find peace in knowing that Carmine was loved and respected by so many.

Every Canadian entrepreneur starting a business encounters a lot of obstacles and Carmine had the perseverance and wisdom to not only see them through, but to pass those traits onto his hardworking family. As Garden Foods has grown with the town, Carmine treated every customer with respect as he walked the floor. We send our condolences to the Carbone family.

Piero, Rose and Carbone family, I send heartfelt condolences to you all on behalf of Caledon Community Services. Carmine was always a model of a senior leader for us, asking about our work in the community and speaking to me with such love and pride about the importance of his family’s community philanthropy. He left a community and so many Caledon residents much better off through his generosity and a family maintaining his legacy of treating everyone with the golden rule.
