Shirley (Mrs. May to me) is a staple of my summertime memories as a kid at the cottage. Her cheery disposition and constant cajoling are all part of the great memories I have of time spent at the May cottage. I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences at this extremely difficult time for the May family. Rest in peace Mrs. May, your burden has been eased. Dearest Uncle Proc,
I am so saddened to hear about Aunt Shirt – as you know, we had a very special relationship and she often said I was like the daughter she never had – I will miss her greatly. She had a wonderful and positive outlook on everything, and a terrific sense of humour. Although a bright light has gone out in our lives, it will continue to shine in our hearts and fond and cherished memories.
Deepest condolences and lots of love and hugs,
    Laura xoxo

Dear Proctor, Darrel & Warren and families:

So sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing (Mrs. May to me!) I have so many happy memories of Clear Water Lake and Mom & Dad wandering over to your place for Happy Hour or you coming to our “Hiram Walker” rock for “Happy Hour”.

Some things that come to mind, are Shirley’s Dad teaching me how to whistle using my thumbs with a blade of grass between them. I always got a kick out of all your happy faces and the wonderful times we enjoyed there, and Shirley always had a good bunch of snacks.

Proctor – remember the time (I was about 16) we were in the boat taking Dad and Uncle Larry skiing and the steering cable broke!? I was very impressed with the way you steered the motor anyways! Much excitement! Shirley was always waiting happily in her favourite spot on the dock.

Such fun skiiing about 3 months after I had one of my daughters (Shannon who is now 40!), and my legs were shaking so badly when I landed at your dock. What I would do for Darrel and Warren (who were just youngsters) when they asked!

Also remembering when Shirley and Mom had a very “joyous afternoon” consuming various beverages, food and cigars. Proctor decided to drive Mom home to one of the Cooper’s cottages I was renting (when my daughter was young) to get her “safely” home. I didn’t know that you could park her car on such an angle against that rock! LOL Shirley most graciously drove the boat over to pick up Proctor.

Loving memories of your whole family. So many happy times spent with all of you. Much love and sympathy to you all at this time.

    Love, Mary Ellen

    Proc, Darrel & Warren
As you know I met Shirley the first year of high school at Humberside. Shirl lived with her parents and brothers and sister just around the corner from our house. Over the years we became very close friends. I was a bridesmaid for Shirley and she for me in 1957. We each had two boys, just months apart, and spent a lot of time together at Clearwater Lake and Etobicoke and Scarborough. Over the years you came to Kushog Lake and we would meet for lunch at the Blue Willow in Gravenhurst. A lot of great memories Proc. Rest in peace now Shirley.
