Peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Headwaters Health Care Centre, Orangeville on Thursday, January 16, 2020, Henry Albert Strong, Bolton, in his 82nd year, beloved husband of the late Iris Strong. Loving father of Donna Strong (Martin Bowers), Trenton; Stephen Strong (Linda Young), Bolton; Denise Strong (Brad Nelson), Toronto. Cherished Grandpa of Nelson Strong. Dear brother of Margaret Norris, Alliston and predeceased by Sadie Morrison.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Thursday evening 6 – 9 o’clock.
Memorial service will be held in the chapel on Friday, January 24 at 2 o’clock.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Headwaters Health Care Foundation, 100 Rolling Hills Drive, Orangeville L9W 4X9 or the Lung Association, 401 – 18 Wynford Drive, Toronto M3C 0K8.

Henry was such a fine man. Bob & I visited him annually at his farm to celebrate the birthdays of 2 young boys, his grandchild Nelson and grand-nephew Charlie. His generous warm greetings really made these events something we all looked forward to, both the Strong family and the Nelson gang. Lots of fun & chit-chat! We’ll miss these get-togethers in his company.

Donna, so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I have many memories of Henry baling hay on our farm as I watched…every summer…I was always amazed how strong he was and able to jump off of his moving tractor, throw a bale onto the wagon, then jump back onto tractor.

Over the years we have enjoyed Henry’s company and hospitality on numerous occasions including at his Bolton family farm; including during celebration of his 75th birthday some 6 years ago. Henry is a person to be looked up to and admired for his hard working, stick-to-it-ness determination. and successful farming career. The Strong Family Farm was, to me a magical place, which I had the honor of visiting numerous times. The Kite in the creek in the ravine that had been there for a long time! Nelson Island, which I had the privilege of assisting in locating with the actual explorer and founder, Nelson Strong. The burlap bag that hung in the garage for years, holding its mysteries, finally opened and revealed even more mysteries…. the weird grey body of water down in the lower pasture in the bush……….
And at the centre of it all was Henry!!!!
The most simple man I have ever met! Bailer twine, wire, and a pair of plyers could basically make any machine run, or hold up a fence that stretched through an amazing land! Henry made cutting grass an adventure!!!!
But my favourite time with Henry was watching Hockey in the back room! With many wonderful characters who were friends of Henry’s.
Having said that, it was never just watching hockey. There was hockey trivia involved! Henry would ask you a question about some player or team, or whatever. Now thinking that I knew the NHL pretty good, I would give an answer and he would smirk, saying “Are you sure?”
All of a sudden you would no longer be sure! Out would come the tablet!!! And of course you were wrong, but you were never told you were wrong, just that you were close!!!!!! Funny part was, Henry already knew the answer, but he made sure you didn’t feel bad about it!!!!! LOL!!!!
Thank you Henry! The memories will last a lifetime!! I will miss you! Have a touch, just a touch! On me!!! Rest in Peace!!!!

I realize this is a bit late but only just heard of “Uncle” Henry’s passing yesterday. I was about 17 when I first met him and Iris. It was because our family moved out of Brampton in about 1969 and about a mile up the road (4th line). After becoming friends with their nephew Lorrie Morrison, I started hanging around the farm after school and weekends and whenever I could. Uncle Henry taught me a lot. Sure, a lot about farming but also about life. To me he was like an uncle and older brother at the same time so I really admired him and your mom also. My folks and siblings did as well.
I remember getting off the school bus there and we still had an hour or two before supper. He wouldn’t let me go home for supper. ” No, ya eat where you scratch!” I remember him saying.
He should have been an inventor. He had some ideas that could have really worked but never really had time to develop them all , I think.
He got me and Lorrie hooked on the Innis Lake dance hall too. If I recall, it used to be on every second Saturday night. Man, they were good memories. Well, I have a lot I could say but I’m going to try to get your phone numbers and catch up with you all. I dearly miss those times with your Dad and your Mom, but also, this being Easter weekend , am looking forward to a joyful reunion on that day. Cheers guys and keep well
