John Rea

The sudden passing of John, in his 82nd year, at Owen Sound Hospital on Sunday, July 9th has taken us all by surprise. It was only a few weeks ago he mourned and laid to rest his beloved wife of 49 years (Mary). It’s been hard for him, as you can imagine, but he was slowly starting to adjust to his new life without her. John immigrated here from Northern Ireland in 1954. He worked on the Howard Farm, St. Lawrence Starch until it closed and retired from Hockley Valley Resort. During their marriage Mary and John lived in Caledon East, Orangeville and in 2014 moved into the Shelburne Residence. It was a hard move at first but before too long, they were calling it home, much to everyone’s delight. The staff welcomed them with open arms, lots of hugs, and real genuine care. John needed extra support after Mary’s passing, he had that lost lonely feeling. Again the staff stepped up and gave him the care, comfort, and support he needed. My heartfelt thanks to all of you! I will truly miss our weekly visits.

Cremation has taken place. John will be laid to rest at our family plot in Caledon East Cemetery at a later date. John’s memorial donations choice would be The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 2300 Yonge Street, Suite 1300, Toronto M4P 1E4. Arrangements by Egan Funeral Home, Bolton (905-857-2213).
