February 5, 1957 – May 3, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of William Alexander Hay, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 3, 2022.

William lived an extraordinary life. William was a loving father and husband, a friend to many, a three continent hotelier, an international businessman, an entrepreneur, an accomplished athlete, and a devoted volunteer.

Look up at the stars, I am the one blinking, I will always be with you and I am okay.

William was a great soccer leader and a mentor and friend to me. The commitment he gave to soccer in Ontario was truly breathtaking and selfless. He cared deeply about the game and the joy it can bring to so many, especially our kids. Humble and contrite, and a true professional who was not afraid to be courageous in his decision-making if it meant doing the right thing. A true example to us all. He will be missed deeply. Rest easy, my friend.

Condolence from Paula Phillips on May 8th, 2022 8:59 pm

With the loss of William … there are not enough words to describe the man he truly was, a devoted husband and father. A man who was there for you and asked for little in return. His sense of humour, although dry to some, was a fine art and will be missed. He always knew what to say and when. We all share in the loss of William and will be hard pressed to fill the void any time soon. Thank you for sharing William with myself and my entire family. The Phillips Family

Condolence from Dehlia Weldon-Yoon on May 11th, 2022 1:32 am

I am still in such shock at the loss of such a tremendous and larger than life friend. I met Will through his wife Winn at Irish dancing. Eventually as the years passed, I got to know Will and what a character he was. His eyes simply danced with mischief and he had an infectious sense of humour. My fondest memories of Will are at Pioneer Village with our book club. We had fine dining and a carriage ride and once we reached the chapel, Will and I were exchanging jokes. The ‘sermon’ in the little church house began at night for Xmas eve, and all Will and I could do was giggle non stop. I rememeber feeling so happy and alive but also aware of the fact that Will and I were interruping the church service. His humour was hilariously funny and I often enjoyed joking with him on the phone before he gave it over to Winnie. Will, you were a Scottish hero and a warrior. You have left an indelible mark on the world. You were greatly loved and always will be and you will missed as well. Rest easy, dear friend. See you on the other side one day! Love, Dehlia (and Keith)
