William Hanna
Posted By Egan Funeral Home On January 9, 2018 @ 9:19 am In Bolton Area,Obituaries | 46 Comments
William Hanna, son of Samuel James and Sarah Jane, brother to Annabelle, Sammy and Jack, faithful husband of Barbara Patricia (predeceased), beloved father of Dawn Patricia, Colin Paul, grandfather to Aaron James and Afton Jane Patricia, great-grandfather to Aihlin Jane Patricia Gravel, father in law to Dawn Marie Rupert, passed suddenly at his home on Wednesday January 3rd, 2018 in his 87th year.
We have lost our father, “Poppy” and grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, co-worker, neighbour and veteran.
“Da” was courageous and obstinate throughout persistent bouts affecting his health and while his body began failing him he remained keen of mind, long in memories, sharp of wit, quick with a laugh and quicker with a jibe.
His spirit was indomitable, his laugh infectious and his stubbornness legendary. Hard hearted Hanna was anything but.
It was his wish, as it was our mother’s before him, that there not be “a fancy funeral service and all that bother” and the family will honour those wishes with cremation this week in his Korean Veterans Association uniform.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Shelburne Legion, 203 William Street, Shelburne on Saturday, May 5th, 2018 at one o’clock. Refreshments and fellowship to follow.
Rest in Peace, Da.

Colin,
My sincere condolences to you and your family. The loss of a father is hard, as they are our super hero. As kids we all brag about how my Dad can do this or beat your Dad. As we get older, it is their wisdom that guides us through tough times. It’s also the person who makes us stand the tallest when they are proud of our accomplishments. It’s also the one person I lean on when I’m troubled. I miss my Dad with each day of his passing, but still hear the wisdom of his words when I’m looking for direction. Even the odd kick in the butt telling me to get up and continue on. I wish you strength and to carry his wisdom on. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time

I have just learned today that my dear friend, Bill, has passed away. We spoke, not that long ago, and I was making soup and he was telling me what ‘fantastic broth’ his son, Colin, could make. We discussed stamps from Ireland, which he generously gave to me for my collection, and I asked him about the ‘matches, batches and dispatches’ news from his sister, Annabelle in Itreland. He called us the ‘g-d grim reapers’ for our reports of people we knew with poor health. Bill was someone very special to me. I loved him and his wife, Pat, and admired their relationship based on love and respect. He is with her now. I will miss our talks. Pat used to say, ‘What the hell do you two have to talk about for two hours on the phone!” I liked his stories and he was a gentleman. My deepest condolences to his beloved family, Colin and Dawn, whom he was most proud of. He had such pride in his family. We will honour him and his memory always.

Bert DeGrazia and myself Laurine Gurr (Reenie) were both saddened to hear of Bill’s death. I, myself had a lot of laughs with him over the years at Northern Telecom. He could be moody at times and funny as heck at other times. If I’m not mistaken Bill was one of the managers who got bag-piped out of Northern when he retired. R.I.P. Bill. It was a pleasure knowing you. Good memories. Condolences to his family .
So saddened to hear of the passing of Bill. My condolences to Bill’s family.
Please accept my condolences to all the family of Bill Hanna. I have many memories of Bill as a manager at Nortel where I worked for 33 years. R.I.P..
Jerry – Margaret Kowal, are both saddened to hear of Bill’s passing, Bill was my manager at one point at Northern Telecom. Bill was always smiling, laughing, I liked him a lot. RIP Bill
Colin and Dawn
Just got the bad news tonight . Bill called me just before Christmas. He was his usual positive self.
We always had a story. They were usually about the many years we worked at Northern. I cannot
believe I only found out tonight. He was a great guy. It seams like just yesterday we were saying
goodby to Pat.
My condolences to both of you and your families.
Sorry to hear about your lost. Our sincere sympathy to the family from Henry and Joan Currie.
Bill was one of my Managers at Northel. No dull moment when Bill was around . May he rest in pease.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences, we will treasure the stories and great memories we have of times spent with Bill,Pat and friends. Glad we had the opportunity to talk with Bill a short while ago. Hope he’s enjoying a Captain Morgan’s.
I was sorry to hear of Bill’s passing and wish his family most sincere condolences.
I recall Bill as the manager down in Frame Wiring, that at the end of break or lunch hours, there he would be standing looking and pointing at his watch (very much like the military man he was), and sending every worker back to their place at the specified time! I think he thoroughly enjoyed that, particularly at 7:00 A.M. when work was to begin for each day!
I didn’t have the honour to actually work for him, always in the department beside him, but I remember him well.
Rest in Peace.
We would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to your family. Bill was a fellow manager and very good friend ! He was also our son’s commanding officer in the army reserves R.I.P dear friend !!
