It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Theordore (Ted) Johannes Jansen at the age of 93. Born 31 March 1933, in Amsterdam, Holland, he passed peacefully on Friday 25 September, 2026 at Brampton Civic Hospital. A tank mechanic in the Dutch Army, he became a machinist that started on the Rhine shipyards of Holland, immigrated to Canada in 1962, and completed a career as a machinist at the Algoma Steel Corporation in Sault Ste. Marie, later to retire in Bolton, Ontario. Highly respected for his skill, he was Algoma’s go to for complex machining tasks, and helped to create the first automated metal lathes still in use today. He was predeceased by parents Heinrich Johann and Gerritje Jansen, his twin brother Gerrit, his brother Henk and sisters Maria, Frieda, and Tonia Andrenna Jansen.

We are also celebrating the life of Marconia Jansen. Born 1 October 1932, in Amsterdam, Holland, she passed of Alzheimer’s on December 23, 2024 at Peel Mannor. Married to Ted on 7 June 1956 in Amsterdam, Holland, they immigrated with their son, Charles, to Canada. A seamstress and housewife, she was devoted to her family and church creating a home in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. An active member of the Benelux Club, she promoted the Dutch culture. She created a girl’s club mentoring many young girls to early adulthood. She was predeceased by parents Gerrit Hendrik and Jantien Varenhorst, and her brothers Gerrit Hendrik, Hendrick, Frans, Jacobus (Cobus) Philippus Varenhorst.  She is survived by her sisters Jantien Varenhorst, Petronella (Nellie) Hendrika Brusick, and Jacqueline Wood.

A love story that spanned over 60 years, through post war Europe, immigration to a new land, learning a new language, and building a new future. Both celebrated the marriage of their son Charles Jansen to Joanne Vani in 1994, and helped to nurture their grandchildren, Gabrielle and Mitchell Jansen. Simple folk that valued working with their hands, Theordore (Opa) and Marconia (Oma), took a house and made it their home, along the way learning the various skills of the trades. Ted the quintessential handyman that could fix just about anything, and Marconia gifted in crafts and wood working, she could turn fabric into art or clothes, make prenatal clothes for local hospitals, and volunteer at her grandchildren’s schools. Loved by their family both here in Canada and in Holland, and respected by their neighbours as a loving couple always willing to help.  Both lived their lives one step at a time, ensuring each step was meaningful and precious. They will be deeply missed.

A memorial reception celebrating their lives will be held at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen St. S. (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Friday, October 16^th from 6 to 8 o’clock.
