Suddenly at Brampton Civic Hospital on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, Stephen Brigden of Inglewood, Ontario, passed away at the age of 70 years. He was the beloved husband for 50 years of Noreen, loving father of Jeff and his wife Lindsay, Amy and her husband Brandon Markoff; proud grandfather of Conlan and Camden Brigden, Mason and Maverick Markoff; and dear brother of Robert and his wife Karen Brigden.

Steve was a retired Detective Sergeant with Peel Regional Police where he spent most of his career at 21 Division as a Constable in the Uniform Bureau, in the Criminal Investigation Bureau and as the Sergeant in Youth Bureau.  He transferred as the Staff Sergeant in the Records Bureau at Headquarters for several years before returning to 21 Division as a Detective Sergeant, where he was a mentor to many young officers. Steve retired from 21 Division as one of the longest serving officers at the Division.

Steve was proud to have volunteered coaching softball and with Associated Youth Services of Peel, and most recently at Bethell Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Bethell Hospice in Inglewood  (www.bethellhospice.org) would be appreciated by the family.

Condolences for the family of “Stephen John Brigden”

Condolence from Charlie Trimble on December 6th, 2023 5:35 pm

My sincerest condolences to Noreen and family. Steve was a well known and respected officer with Peel and an integral part of “The Hill” as 21 Division became known as by the members of the Service.

“As the sun surely sets: dawn will see it arise, for service, above self, demands its own prize. You have fought the good fight: life’s race has been run, and peace, your reward, for eternity begun. And we that are left, shall never forget, rest in peace friend and colleague, for the sun has now set”.

Condolence from Gord Bell on December 8th, 2023 6:27 pm

Steve was, without doubt, one of the best, kindest, and most respected officers I ever had the privilege of working with and for. His integrity was unmatched. Aside from being an excellent officer and investigator he was an even better supervisor who genuinely cared for his people. Another one of the greats taken from us far too soon. I offer condolences to Noreen and his family on behalf of myself and my wife, Sue. May you rest in peace Steve.
.
Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.

To Noreen and family, my sincere condolences. My colleagues and I had the privilege of working for Steve for four years at 21 CIB. He was highly regarded by all of us as someone who led by example and could be counted upon to work with us shoulder to shoulder, always steering us in the right direction. He had a great sense of humour and we enjoyed many a good laugh together. He was truly someone who cared about his people and PRP was fortunate to have had a man like Steve for so many years. Though he will be missed by all of us, our fond memories shall live on.

To Noreen , family, and extended family,
My sincerest condolences to all of
you as we share the sadness brought
on by the untimely loss of one of our
dearest brothers /friends/ and colleagues ,.Steve was not only a
perfect role model for the newer. ‘
younger Police officers; he was one
of thr finest human beings I ever had
the honor of knowing. Steve, from the
time I first met you and you expressed an interest in following me in to our
chosen profession as a proud member
of the Peel Regional Police Service..
We were of like mind with all of the
fine points of working in our chosen field,, and I could never show you just
how proud of you I became as I followed
your many accomplishments and noble
endeavours throughout your tenure,
You completed almost twice the years of service that I did , but even as an outsider I was able to be a spectator
watching an epic story evolve. You
have so much to be proud of with your ever growing extended family and I always felt that anyone who had the pleasure of meeting you would walk
away a better human being.

Steve, so long good friend, and know that your place in heaven I will be
filled with great things.
