It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the leader of our band.  Stan Janes passed away suddenly at Brampton Civic Hospital on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023 at the age of 67. Stan leaves behind his treasured best friend, partner and band mate of 25 years Diane Tolstoy, adoring children Errin Janes, Sasha (Natasha) Tolstoy, Jolene (Braden) Coles, Kim (Mike) Janes, Anton Tolstoy, and Liane (Jon) Janes. Proud grandfather to Sarah, Caitlyn, Naomi, Stella and Nathan.  Predeceased by his mother Beverly and step-father John, Stan leaves behind his father Stanley Sr., step-mother Lois, siblings Joanna, Danny (Lucie), Kimberlye (David), Dawn (Jim), Jim (Janice), Gloria, Duane (Cindy), Cindy, a giant family and many friends especially his best friend Dave “Bart” Bartnik.  67 years doesn’t seem long enough…but Stan packed a huge life into those years.  He was a self-taught gifted musician… sharing his craft in local bands, living room jam sessions and countless duets with Diane. He could be found tinkering in his barn, brewing up all sorts of concoctions, hunting and enjoying the outdoors. He was a notably talented handy-man who would find a way to repair and restore anything that crossed his path.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration to share stories and songs will be held at the Niagara on the Lake Community Centre, 14 Anderson Lane, Niagara-on-the-Lake from 11am – 3pm on Sunday, February 12th, 2023. All are welcome. A memorial will be held at a later date in Caledon, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Music Therapy Fund would be appreciated by the family. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

My heartfelt condolences to you Diane and your family. I first met Stan about 15 plus years ago when I went out for my first night as an Operation Red Nose volunteer. He was funny, kind, charming and appeared organized (a big plus in my books). He definately was an asset to the Caledon community and will be missed. Hang tight to family, friends and your many years of memories as in them you will find the strength to face the hardest of days that lie ahead. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Condolence from Harold and Wanda Janes on February 9th, 2023 4:01 pm

So sorry to hear of Stan’s passing.
We have so many great memories while volunteering at first Operation Red Nose and then Home James. Stan was always quick to spark up a conversation.
Although everyone thought we were related it was always fun seeing the disbelief on their faces when we would say we both lived in Bolton, we never even knew each other before Operation Red Nose. A great man gone way to soon. RIP Stan, you will live on in our hearts and fond memories.
Harold and Wanda Janes

Condolence from Ruth and Ed Broeders on February 10th, 2023 10:10 am

To say we were shocked and saddened by Stan’s passing is an understatement. We knew him for about twenty years and shared many misadventures with him. Camping trips in their RV, going to concerts, listening to him “noodle” on his guitar, starting up Operation Red Nose, organizing the Bolton Rotary Ribfests were among the many fun times we had. He will be sorely missed. Our sincere condolences to Diane and the family.

Condolence from Joe & Grace Rinaldi on February 12th, 2023 5:15 pm

Dear Diane & Family

I hope you know how much you meant to Stan, who managed to weave threads of your stories into his conversations with us. He always spoke of what’s close to his heart and mind, and I credit feeling like I know you better for it. Because, no matter how insanely busy it got at work, he made time for the things that mattered. And that’s one of the incredible things about Stan: he makes you feel like you matter.

And Stan certainly matters a great deal to a great number of people because he touched many lives. Not many can claim to leave a legacy like he has, and Stan didn’t even have to aim for it. He simply did.

His legacy of kindness, warmth, wit and humanity is a beautiful inspiration & the memories of him are fondly remembered and cherished.

We are privileged to have known him, and are deeply sorry for your loss.

You are my Sunshine, Stan. You made me happy when skies were grey.

I miss you greatly.

Condolence from Fabianne Murua on February 15th, 2023 8:43 am

Stan will always be one of the most important persons in my life. Since I was his exchange student host/daughter 17 years ago, my life changed. He always made sure I had a good time and looked after me. We made a lot of memories. And for that, I will always be grateful. He will always be missed. I will never forget our times together. Always in my heart.

And for Diane, know that I’m here and I hug you from distance. You have gained an Angel in heaven. I love you so much and I’m so sorry for this.
