Condolence from Jim Mitchell on November 2nd, 2014 11:38 am

In 1967 Carol And I took Shirley, Billy, Bonnie and Granny to Expo 67 in Montreal. I rented a 17 foot trailer for all of us to stay in. We camped just outside of Montreal. I pulled the trailer with my station wagon. Granny (a little overweight) sat in the seat behind me over the muffler. She complained how warm it was and as it turned out the car was sitting so low that Grannie’s seat caught fire.
Billy and I took turns pushing Granny around Expo in a beat-up wheelchair with tiny 4″ wheels. The part I remember best was pushing Granny over the Jacque Chartier bridge and every 20 feet or so the front wheels would catch on the bridge dividers and almost dump Granny out onto the bridge. On the slope down Billy walked in front of the chair to keep it from tipping her into the St. Lawrence and I held on to the handles trying to keep it from going too fast. The trip down that bridge always reminded me of the movie “The Notorius Landlady” with Jack Lemon.
Shirley and Bonnie complained the entire trip. It wasn’t fun at the time but the memory of the whole trip was great to this day. Shirley and Bonnie were probably around ten at the time.
The last time I saw Shirley I remarked how much she looked like her Mother and I remember her thanking me.
My belief is that she will move on to the next level. I talked to her several days ago and she sounded good.
Del, Dorothy, Bill, George, Cal and Irene all came back to let me know that all was OK so I know she will be greeted with loving arms.
Death is an exciting beginning of a new phase of living for the soul.

Uncle Jim.

Condolence from Cousin Valerie on November 2nd, 2014 8:57 pm

My heartfelt condolences go out to Bob, Sandy, “Billy” and his Sandy. As with her mother, my Aunt Dorothy, Shirley was probably one of the best human beings I have ever known. There was never a bad thought or negative word said about anyone and her generosity of spirit is what I will always remember about dear Shirley. I will always remember how kind and patient Shirley was. When my family would visit Aunt Dorothy’s in Maple I would always find my way into Shirley’s room. She had this little type-writer and I really enjoyed typing on it. I probably wrecked the ribbon and left a mess of paper in the trash. Any one else would have been annoyed that a 10 year old cousin had been into their room but Shirley never once said anything or complained. She was just so loving and so giving. I will truly miss her. The world will be a little less bright now that her star has moved on to grace another world. God keep you in his heart my dear Shirley. You shall certainly be missed down here. Love you always. Valerie

I lived next door to Shirley, Dorothy, Billy and Sandy in Maple. Shirley was that lovely older girl that was next door and I gratefully received some of her hand me-down clothes. My parents Alma and Roy loved Dorothy and the family. They were good neighbors and friends and I have fond memories of the get-togethers.

Rest in peace Shirley and we are all just a little bit better for knowing you at some point in our lives.

Shirley’s smile could bring sunshine to a cloudy day. I met Shirley when helping with the food bank. I share the sentiments of everyone her knew her – that she was the most cheerful and lovely person I had ever met.

Condolence from Carole and Kevin Simmons on November 5th, 2014 9:14 am

When we think of Shirley, it is with our heart, not head.
We met Shirley in a Bible Study, and felt instant love.
Shirley is a beloved child of God. He enveloped her, which gave her the supreme honour to emit His love to us. What an exceptional gift Shirley is.
Her words, her smile, her love of everyone is present, here, now.
I look in my Bible today to find Shirley. His words that were her foundation.
Galatians 5:22
The fruit of the Spirit.
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.
Love you Shirley, and send love to all who will miss you on Earth, but know you are with us, guiding us and filling us up!
Kevin and Carole

Condolence from Kathy Snider on November 5th, 2014 10:28 pm

We have known Shirley since public school. All the words above are a true testament to the person she was. Shirley and I were in public school when we had our first job together. We painted western jewelry for a fellow not far from Old Pine Grove School. To Dave, Sandy, Bill and other family members, we send our love and prayers.
Kathy, Mike and family and Murray Snider
