When I think back on my childhood – some of my fondest memories included “Papa Rocco”. Many of us were scared of him with his booming voice and commanding presence, but deep down, he was a big softy who loved all of us kids as if we were his own. I remember the hours he spent making his homemade wine in the garage – wine that most of us would sneak out of the basement and I think he knew full well that we were taking it. He would probably give a little chuckle when he saw us get looped after a couple of sips! He kept the pool clean for all the neighbourhood kids who spent endless hours in it and always kept a watchful eye. At times he even turned a blind eye as long as we kids were having good, clean fun! The front door was always open, just like his heart, and no matter what time of day or night – you could walk in and he would look up from his favourite chair and give you a hearty greeting. Over the years, whenever I thought of him, or better yet – saw him, it would bring a smile to my face and his memory will continue to do so for years to come!! Rest in peace “Papa Rocco” and take care of all our loved ones up there!
