Robert

February 10, 1945, Toronto

January 24, 2015, Newmarket

Robert died from complications due to a fall in mid-January. Prior to this he had struggled with health issues for some years. We are grateful for the care and attention he received at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket. He was predeceased by his parents Wyla Ella (nee Whaley) from Carberry, Manitoba and George Robert Myers from Toronto and formerly of Albion Hills and Etobicoke. He is lovingly remembered by his twin brother Martin George Myers, his sister-in-law Elizabeth McRae and his nephew David Graham Myers. Robert was a country boy at heart. His youth was spent exploring the country around the Albion Hills with his brother Martin, and his oldest friend Dan Hayes. He loved the area so much, as an adult, he moved just a few miles away to Nobleton. He was never happier than when he was in rural Manitoba with his beloved Whaley cousins or at his cottage on the French River with his many friends and fishing buddies. He retired from Air Canada (Malton) after long service with the company. He remained in close contact with many of his former colleagues. Throughout his life, even when he faced setbacks, he remained both kind and good-natured, full of stories and tall tales. We will miss him terribly.

The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Tuesday afternoon 2 – 4 and evening 7 – 8 o’clock and Wednesday, January 28 from one o’clock until time of funeral service in the chapel at 2 o’clock.

Followed by cremation.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to Ducks Unlimited Canada, 7171 Torbram Road, Mississauga L4T 3W4 (www.ducks.ca) or a charity of your choice.

Condolences for the family of “Robert (Bob) Francis Myers”

Condolence from Victor & Sharon Henderson on January 26th, 2015 2:29 pm

Martin, Elizabeth & David
Our sincere condolences. Robert will be missed in so many ways in Hartley Bay. He was a friend of the Henderson family for decades. He had become part of the family in Hartley Bay and shared many of his adventures with us at “cocktail hour”.
We will all miss his blue boat sailing down Badgar Lake, his almost daily visits and his humour. He was a true gentleman, like his father and will always remain in our hearts.

Condolence from Mary Anna Williams on January 26th, 2015 3:16 pm

This is such a terribly sad time. I find it hard to accept that Robert will not be at future family events. Martin, Elizabeth and Graham, in talking to the family we find it very hard to accept. Robert will be missed.

Condolence from Frank Strehle on January 26th, 2015 4:00 pm

I have fond memories of Bob, my work colleague, my friend. When I retired and moved to the East Coast, he often called just to reconnect and talk about old times. He will be missed by so many and always remembered as the gentleman he was.
Bob you remain in our hearts, Frank & Wendy

Condolence from Tina Henderson on January 26th, 2015 4:10 pm

To the Entire Myers Family:

Growing up on Hartley Bay with the rest of the Henderson clan, Mr. Myers has been a part of pretty much my whole life. Mr. Myers participated in many of the Badger Lake cocktail hours, first with my grandparents Basil and Irene, and then with my own parents, Sharon and Victor. His stories of fishing and some of his antics always had us all laughing. He was such a nice person to have come for a visit. He will be dearly missed on the French and especially by the Henderson’s, as we thought of him as one of ours.

Condolence from RAY AND GAIL WHALEY – AND GRACE on January 26th, 2015 4:24 pm

HEY MARTIN AND ELIZABETH, WE WERE VERY SADDENED TO HEAR OF ROBERT’S PASSING. I REALLY BELIEVED AND HOPED HE WOULD PULL AWAY FROM HIS VARIOUS HEALTH ISSUES AND BE THE OLD T.O.. BOBBIE THAT WE ONCE KNEW . ROBERT LOVED HIS OUTDOORS AND ESPECIALLY HIS VISITS TO MANITOBA WHERE MANY SHARED MEMORIES ,ADVENTURES AND FAMILY EVENTS OCCURED. HE WAS AN ENERTAINER AND A FUN LOVING GUY. THAT’S HOW WE SHOULD ALL REMEMBER HIM. ON WEDNESDAY, WE SHOULD ALL HAVE A TODDIE FOR THE BODY ( AS PER ROBERT’S LEAD), AND TOAST A FINE AND LOYAL MAN, RELATIVE, BROTHER AND SON. REST IN PEACE BOB .

My most favourite memories of ‘Uncle’ Bob, were as a child and going to his house as our last stop every Halloween. He would always give us the best treats and we’d get to stay at his house for a while and visit, eating our candy. He will be missed

Condolences. It was always a pleasure have the Myers family next door in Hartley Bay. Robert I am sure will be truly missed during “tottie time” on those hot summer days. The biggest fish were always caught right in front of his dock. May he rest in peace.

Condolence from Drew@Marilyn Whaley–Douglas Mb. on January 27th, 2015 12:03 am

Marilyn and myself and of couse Grace are deeply sorrowed to hear of Roberts passing. As the youngest of the Whaley family I can remember many visits-usually in the fall-when Bob would return to try to fill his suitcase with mallardducks; and curse at the discomfort of shooting out of a pit. The blend of storys between Bob, my brothers (Raymond,Kent), dad (Ken) of course Uncle Carky (Clayton Farley) could I’m sure have enough volume for a reality show back then! Bob always phoned or Christmas carded to keep up with us out on the prairies. Unfortunatly I cannot attend the service, our thoughts will be there! So long Bob!

Condolence from Michael Menard on January 27th, 2015 7:13 am

Condolence from Bill and Julie gray on January 27th, 2015 7:53 am

Very saddened to hear of Bobs passing. Fondly remembered as “The BURR” to his airport buddies. Bob and I were partners on tow crew at the airport for years and shared an apartment for awhile. So many great memories and fun at the airport. Bob was always good at staying in touch with phone calls and well written letters. I’m sure he’s having a toddy with a number of our tow crew buddies who have passed away in recent times.Julie and I are out of the country at this time but our thoughts and prayers are with you.Blue “30” over and out.

Condolence from Dan Hayes Jr. on January 27th, 2015 9:02 am

I have very fond memories of “Uncle Bobby”, from fishing up north with him, to visiting the airport to watch planes and the famous “Uncle Bobby pizzas” which had double anchovies.

Two things stand out in my mind when I think of Bob, he had this unique ability to snap his toes to Gordon Lightfoot songs and him promising me as a child that if a bear broke into the cabin he would personally wrestle it to the ground and get me a bear skin rug.

I will always picture him sitting on the dock at Badger Lake with a cold beverage in his hand snapping his toes to “Early Morning Rain”.

Condolence from Wayne Turner on January 27th, 2015 9:05 am

Just a blink in time the last few tough years have been with Bob, but the many before will be lasting. The Tow-Ologist B.G.I. Bob, Robert or just Myers as he was fondly called by his friends will be remembered as genuine and kind hearted. I don’t feel bad and a little less sad because I know he’s free of this life’s torments and in good company. To Martin, Elisabeth and David our sincere condolences, Matthew, Mackenzie, Jacqueline, Joann, and Wayne will miss Robert.

Condolence from Barry and Lee Murdoch on January 27th, 2015 11:08 am

Barry and I were very saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. Barry and Bob worked together for many years and after their retirement Bob kept in touch with Barry on a regular basis. I know Barry will miss Bob terribly, even though they didn’t see each other often, he was always happy to know that Bob was on the other end of the line.

Condolence from Mike & Marcia Rawlings, Hartley Bay on January 27th, 2015 2:08 pm

“To Our Friend Bobby”

Friends are the foundation on which we build our life
They walk with us through all the turmoil and strife
There when we need them to lean on
With caring and love soon the stress is gone
Few people are what we can call a true friend
There at the beginning… and there at the end

Condolence from Kent Whaley on January 28th, 2015 12:02 pm

Martin, Elizabeth and Graham,

I was shocked and saddened on hearing of Bob’s passing. Years back Bob and I had many excursions together on his annual fall hunting trip to Manitoba and I remember those occasions often. I regret having lost touch with Bob the last few years, caused largely through my inattention to call or write. The trip up to the French River with Bob was often discussed but never acted on, another regret of mine and now it’s too late. I will keep Bob’s memory in my heart and say a prayer for him on the occasion of the first geese I hear in the spring and the last each fall. Please accept my condolences on his passing.

Condolence from Suzanne (Sue,) Panthel nee Walker on January 29th, 2015 8:32 am

I send my sincere condolences to you, Martin and Sue and David.
My fondest memories of Robert is when we were dating, one summer,
while vacationing up here from Florida. He was a perfect gentleman and treated me generously to some lovely restaurants. I was also fortunate to be in the company of your parents on occasions, whom I found to be very warm and friendly to me. In recent years, after i was married and living in Bolton, I enjoyed running into Robert occasionally, having some friendly chats. He always had that special smile, one that I will remember for a long time.

I wish you many wonderful memories of a wonderful brother. No doubt, he thought you were special too. Take pride in that as your grief passes.
