Veteran World War II – Newfoundland Militia, 1941 – 1942; Gunner, Royal Artillery Regiment No. 971670, 1942 – 1945
Peacefully, with his family by his side, at Hospice Simcoe, Barrie on Sunday, May 1, 2011, Donald Rideout of Innisfil, formerly of Newfoundland, in his 86th year, beloved husband of the late Mary Plank. Loving father of Donald and his wife Jeannita of Brampton, Melita and her husband Ken Armstrong of Newfoundland. Cherished grandfather of Robert and Jeffery Rideout, Rodney Tolino, Darren, Ron, Ken and Kimberley Armstrong, Cathey Armstrong-Russell. Fondly remembered by his 11 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Geraldine and her husband Clarence Butler of Newfoundland. The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home Baxter & Giles Chapel, 273 Broadway, Orangeville (519-941-2630) Wednesday, May 4 from 12 o’clock until time of Legion service in the chapel at 2 o’clock. Funeral service will follow immediately after the Legion service. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Orangeville. We extend our sincerest condolences for your loss. We know first hand the tender care given by Ken, Melita, Cathey, Mark, Darren and other family members over the last number of weeks. You are an amazing family. At so many of your special events, we remember your Dad watching the festivities in the background, not missing anything, like a wise owl tending to it’s nest.
Your Dad was definitely a hero to survive the second World War, no doubt it was due to his sharpness and survival skills which we have seen handed down. You can be proud of his success in living life in the manner which he chose.
May you find peace as your Dad has found his.
