Huycke Web

Raymond Harold Huycke, in his 98th year, devoted husband of the late Evelyn Lucille Lutz, passed away peacefully at Southlake Hospital, Newmarket, on Friday June 9, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. Loving father of Bonnie (John) Mactaggart, Allan (Debra) Huycke and Carol (Robert) Lake. Wonderful grandfather of Heather (Warren) Patterson, Laurie (Dan) Kolb, Stephen Huycke, Adam (Vivian) Huycke, Jennifer Huycke, Sarah (Jason) Landry, Genna Nichol-Hammond, Kaitlynn Hoos and Nicola Lake. Proud great grandfather of Blake, Evan and Chantal Patterson, Victoria and Joseph Kolb, Grayson Landry and Eleanor Huycke.
Raymond faithfully served his family, community, and country. After enlisting with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment in 1939, he completed his training in Quebec City and England. Deep friendships were formed and strength of character developed as comrades battled the foe. Raymond rose through the ranks to Sergeant Major and with his Company he participated in the campaign to liberate Sicily and Italy. After his release from a German Prisoner of War camp at war’s end, he returned home to a civilian life but remained committed to his Regimental comrades, participating in Remembrance Services until 2015.
Upon retirement from the heating and air conditioning industry, he spent much of his time volunteering and was previously recognized as York Region’s Citizen of the Year. Raymond served his immediate and extended family and friends with integrity, dignity, and humour and he remains a hero in the hearts of all who shared in his life.
The family would like to thank Lynne, Kristin, Sean, Sandy, Claire, Nancy and Ek, Gino, Staff at Southlake Hospital, pharmacists Pat and Lucy of Nobleton Pharmasave, and numerous neighbours and friends for their care, support, and kindness.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Monday evening 7 – 9 o’clock and Tuesday, June 13 from one o’clock until time of funeral service in the chapel at 2 o’clock. Interment Nobleton Community Cemetery. Followed by a reception at Nobleton United Church. In memory of Raymond, donations to Parkinson Canada, Sleeping Children around the World, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Carol,
This note is for all your family, and all who loved and miss your Dad, but mostly it is for you! I am writing heart to heart from one Daddy’s girl to another!! You will know what I mean! I know how proud you have been to be Raymond’s daughter! I know you delighted in his character and actions, and he in yours! I recall wonderful email posts where you shared pride in how relavent and involved your father remained into his ripe old age! I have told others of his mastery of computer communication, and it cheered some of his vintage on!! I remember with gratitude that your Dad provided transportation for Jan, when she could not do it for herself! I know he carried himself with dignity, and placed her in dignity as well. Memories of your Mom and your Dad and a wonderful green lawn in Nobleton are warm and happy. You know where your Dad is, you know Who’s he is and you know this was God’s plan all along!
Daddy’s girls are special! We have been given special grace to go on and flourish! Talk soon! Love, Lynda xo

Condolence from Skip Simpson on June 13th, 2017 6:54 am

First of all please accept my sincere condolences, and apologies for not extending my respects in person. Although I didn’t know Sgt Maj Huycke well, I only met him on a couple of occasions, I did know him by reputation. My late father served with him in Sicily and Italy and he always spoke of your dad with the greatest respect as did all the WWII veterans of The Regiment who served with him. A man can receive no greater tribute than to command the respect of those who served with him in war. Again, my deepest sympathies to the Huycke family. Skip Simpson, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired), former Commanding Officer, The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment.

Condolence from Scott Huycke on October 27th, 2017 11:09 pm

To my Uncle Raymond Huycke’s family. I am very sorry to hear of his passing and very sorry I did not see his death announcement earlier than today (several months). Although I have not seen Uncle Raymond for many years, I did enjoy speaking to him on the phone for a brief period a few years back. Our family was not close however, I do remember fondly the time I had the opportunities to spend at your family cottage. So many fond memories of those times and how Uncle Raymond was so kind and caring to me and my family.
