One of the last great Tech. Guys from Northern Secondary. His ability to skewer any uppity administrator was legendary and kept morale high in this diverse school. I will cherish my memory of him. My deep condolences to family and friends.

Condolence from Jim, Tracy, Jordan, and Mackenzie Streb on October 24th, 2016 3:42 pm

Ruta, Rene, Rhonda, and my dear friend Ryan,
The news of Ray’s death was a serious blow to our whole family. Ray and Ruta were the first neighbours to invite us to dinner after we moved to Nobleton some 20 years ago. You introduced us to other neighours, offered advice, shared vegetables, debated politics, and were always willing to just stop and talk for a moment. Ray was opinionated and never afraid to share those opinions, but was never disrespectful of the opinions of others. We have known Ray as a friend an neighbour for some twenty years and during that time could not have asked for better. We were lucky to have known Ray. His recent battle with illness demonstrated his incredible will, his determination, and his strength. I don’t know many people who could have fought a better battle. But now, we are glad that there was no pain and suffering. Ray, you will be missed, as our neighbour and our friend. Rest in peace.

Ray, a good guy and colourful character. He added a lot to my enjoyment teaching at NSS and very welcoming to me when I was a newbie on staff. I’d find him in the staff room smoking his pipe – always fun to talk to. Those were good years.
My condolences to you Ruta and your family.

Condolence from Terry Doucette on June 4th, 2020 11:46 pm

First of all, my condolences to the Shupe family. I was a student of his at Northern Secondary School. He was more than a teacher to me. He taught me more about life than any amount of schooling ever could. We would spend time before and sometimes after class having great discussions about many different things. He always made me laugh. Although I hadn’t seen him in many years, I often thought about him and still do…along with the life lessons that have provided guidance when I’ve needed it most. Rest in Peace Mr.Shupe…

Condolence from Paul Willadsen on October 21st, 2020 9:17 am

I was in Mr. Shupe’s architectural class in the mid sixties at NSS and thought he was one of coolest teachers. He always wore a bow tie which was his trademark. “R.I.P. Mr. Shupe”
