Condolence from John Hughes on May 17th, 2018 4:58 pm

My condolences to Peter’s family. I remember Peter with much fondness. He worked with us at Hughes Containers for a number of years and continued to be my locksmith of choice for years after that. His character shone through in everything he did. He loved people and people loved him. Our lives have been enriched by Peter’s friendship. Thanks Peter.

Condolence from D SCOTT MUNRO on May 17th, 2018 6:50 pm

I vividly remember those days in seventh grade, when Jaan Pill and I would walk with Peter across the field that separated our neighbourhood from school, sharing our thoughts of the day. After too many years apart, Peter was once again with Jaan and I to arrange our recent high school reunion at the Old Mill, once again to share his thoughts and so to keep us on course. He will always reside in my fond memories of life, as he will in those of all who knew him. Too soon gone, but so well remembered.

Condolence from Clayton Hyland on May 17th, 2018 7:07 pm

Christian love to all.

Condolence from Jaan Pill on May 17th, 2018 7:49 pm

I remember Peter from the days when we were students at Malcolm Campbell High School (MCHS) in Montreal in the early 1960s. We kept in touch in the years that followed. Some years ago, when graduates of MCHS organized a Sixties Reunion, which was held in 2015 in Toronto, Peter was a key player on the organizing team. He knew so many people, from those years, and shared so many entertaining stories about them. He will be missed.

Condolence from Harry Chan on May 17th, 2018 8:05 pm

A lifelong friend for Carol, and for me since 1959. We were first introduced by Ruth Dods and played a game of checkers at Ralph & Ruth Dod’s house on Boulevard St-Germain in Montreal. Countless memories after that. Had been thinking about Peter and the Mearns family just before learning that he had “crossed the river.” He and his family were closely woven with many of us in Montreal. Distance did not loosen those ties… we have not forgotten. Condolences to Suzanne and the extended family.

“Blest be the tie that binds
our hearts in Christian love;
the fellowship of kindred minds
is like to that above.”

” When we are called to part,
it gives us inward pain;
but we shall still be joined in heart,
and hope to meet again. “

Condolence from Ralph and Janie Pilkington on May 17th, 2018 9:37 pm

Our hearts are touched dear Sue and family. We cannot stop praying for you all day long and entrusting you to the miraculous grace of our Lord Jesus. Peter was such an encouragement to our family and we are thankful to have had him in our lives. We will miss his happy cheerful smile, kind eyes, and his many talents especially the piano playing and his caring spirit. We are thinking of every memory we can and we have lots!

We…cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in our prayers.. Ep. 1:16

” I will lift up mine eyes …my help cometh from the Lord.” “In the shadows of thy wings will I make my refuge till all these calamities be overpast.” “I will not leave you comfortless”

Lots of love and a big hug….I’m afraid the words just would not come!! Ralph and Janie

We are away in Idaho right now but hope to see you soon….

A long time friend gone home to be with his Lord & Saviour.
To depart & be with Christ which is far better
May the GOD of comfort be with his loved ones

Condolence from Sam Watts on May 18th, 2018 9:09 am

I will never forget the interest that Peter took in me when I was a young teenager – he made me feel like a peer even though he was considerably older. He established common ground – he had graduated from MCHS and I was going there! I also remember being a huge fan of his vigorous piano style – in a church setting where music and musicality was frowned upon! Our family also appreciated that Peter brought his Dad to my grandmother’s funeral – where I had the privilege of officiating.

My condolences to the family on behalf of the extended Watts family.

Condolence from Ward Hargreaves on May 18th, 2018 1:06 pm

Peter was not only a gentleman; but a gentle man. Always willing to take a moment to chat or help another person. We are sadly losing more of his type with their firm grip on decency and forthrightness. Judy and myself send our condolences and sympathy at this difficult time.

Condolence from Bob Carswell on May 19th, 2018 11:15 am

To Suzanne and family,
You don’t know me but I knew Peter. I first met him at MCHS when I was a student. I was older than most having already spent 3 years at Montreal High before MCHS in 1960. Learning disabilities will do that to you. I was at MCHS for 3 years and got to know Peter well during that period. I moved on to Sir George Williams evening high school after that and finally made it into the University at age 21. Then I went west for 3 years came back to University full time for three more and in 1972 moved to Toronto. I was sitting in my office in the early 1980s when this salesman came through the door and we immediately recognized each other. It was a nice visit. The company was sold, moved and we did not reconnect until the MCHS 55th anniversary reunion. I was the guy who came up with the idea for the big one in 2000 in Montreal which saw 1200 people attending. As a result I was a guest at the 55th reunion and for the 3rd time in my life met Peter again. One day at one of the luncheons he bid farewell to all of us and I wondered at the time if he saw the writing on the wall. Three years later he left us. Life is never fair and those who are left behind get the worst of it. I sincerely hope his passing was peaceful. One more good friend gone forever. My thoughts are with the family at this time of grief. RIP old buddy.

Condolence from Cees and Clary Bijl on May 19th, 2018 9:36 pm

Dear Sue, cees and I are thinking about you all the time.Peter’s passing seems still so unreal to us. It is like we see and feel him around us everywhere. We pray that the Lord will comfort and be close to you in the coming days. We have so much appreciated Peter in many ways, as small group leader, in the men’s wednesdays prayer meetings, in Church and even doing some jobs in our home. We pray that ” because HE LIVES “you can face tomorrow. Much love Cees and Clary Bijl.

Condolence from Peter E Scott on May 21st, 2018 9:50 am

Sue, what can be said? I am so sorry for your loss. Both you and Peter were very kind to me when I lived in Rexdale and I cherish that. Peter was a great encourager to me when life became very dark, and I thank God for the gift of time that he gave me. His openness and vulnerability was a challenge to me and other men at Rexdale, that too was a gift.

I pray that the Lord Jesus will reveal himself to you as he walks with you into you new days. May he receive your tears as a prayer, may he lead you by the hand, may you feel his comfort.

Love to you and your family,
Peter Scott
Stonehaven, NB

Condolence from Debbie Johnston on May 21st, 2018 9:35 pm

My sincere condolences to the family and friends who knew Peter best. I had the pleasure of working with him at Hughes, as graphic designer we sometimes collaborated on projects for his sales presentations. His warm nature was genuine and felt by us all. So sorry to hear that he has left you so suddenly. May God bless and support you through this difficult time of grief with the faith that you’ll meet again one day.
I know he will be missed by all who knew him, my heart goes out to the family who will feel the greatest loss of his daily presence.

Condolence from Jean & Albert Lush on May 22nd, 2018 11:42 am

Madame Mearnes and Family. Words seem so inadequate in expressing our condolences to you on the passing of your loved one. It was my privilege to have met Peter during our time at Calvary Christian School, and a couple of times on the ferry going to Newfoundland. He was a man of great stature and from reading the condolences, he was very well loved and accepted by many folk. May you find the comfort and peace that you need for the remainder of your journey in none other that Jesus. You will be in our prayers and thoughts. The sovereign God in His great love and mercy has everything under His supreme control. Peter heard the clarion call, and without reservation responded, and today is basking in the presence of his Heavenly Father. It won’t be long and another family reunion will take place in the realms of the celestial city. Hold to the promise of the Father, trust in His Word, and “the family circle won’t be unbroken”. Sending our heartfelt love and prayers.
