Condolence from Keith Mashinter on March 3rd, 2025 11:29 pm

Off like a herd of turtles, Orval would say. This younger brother of Lorne, my father, was always ready with some silly remark to lighten the heavy workload of farming. I have some vague but good memories of corn roasts and euchre tournaments along the 4th line, Gore Road. My condolences to family and friends dealing with the loss, but hopefully it also renews some fond memories.

Condolence from Ken and Chris Graham on March 5th, 2025 8:15 pm

Many years ago I got to meet Orval at his farmhouse when I received a call for an ambulance call because a hunter was bleeding profusely from an accidental gunshot at the far end of the farm. I ordered a helicopter on the way to the call. Orval offered to get us there on his tractor so we piled the medical stuff and flares into the bucket and headed out through the snow. While we headed down into the deep gulley, I had Orval light 3 flairs in a triangle for the landing. By the time we started CPR and stopped the blood loss, we heard the helicopter and loaded the patient for a flight to Sunnybrook Trauma. I met Orval later and he was so happy to hear the patient made it to surgery. I always admired Orval and send our sympathies to Sarah and his family.

Sarah, I only just discovered this news. I am so sorry for your loss. Now I am at a retirement home in Newmarket.
My daughter wanted me here as it is cheaper than in Orangeville, as well as closer to a large hospital.
God bless you and give you comfort. I miss hearing you playing hymns.
