At home in Nobleton surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 5, 2023, Norris Norman Monaghan of Nobleton, beloved husband of the late Margaret Abbigail (Gail) Monaghan for 57 years, peacefully passed away in his 83rd year.  Loving father of Cheryl Monaghan and the late Colin Anderson, Shawn and Dawn Monaghan, Craig Monaghan, Renny and Jennifer Monaghan, Dwane Monaghan and Krista Giles.  Cherished grandfather of Blair, Wyatt, Kurtis, Danielle, Robyn and Adam.  Dear brother of the late Ken (Joan), Tom (Beattie), Carolyn (Stuart), George (Mickey), Jeannie (Kim) along with many nieces and nephews.

Norris was farm raised in Feversham, Ontario.  He had little formal education, but was fearless, hardworking, curious, and self-taught.  He had an entrepreneurial spirit and together with his brother Tom owned a couple of successful businesses.  He loved Gail, traveling with the Carscaddens, visiting the Peelar farm, pie, cribbage, machinery of any kind, the horse races and Florida.

The family would like to thank the Southlake Regional Cancer Centre and Hospall Private Homecare Inc for their care and support.

The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Saturday morning, March 11 from 11 o’clock until time of  funeral service in the chapel at 12 o’clock.  Followed by a reception at the funeral home.  Private family interment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Norris’ name to the Southlake Foundation, Emergency Department.

Condolence from Mark Vickers on March 7th, 2023 2:08 pm

Very sorry to my friend Cheryl and the kids for your loss. I met Norris several times over the years and found him to be direct, straight forward, respected and respectful with a quiet kindness about him. He had those rarest of traits, seldom found, when just glancing by someone’s life . You knew he was a success without him having to tell you about it. He was both interesting and interested with a wonderful character.

Condolence from Barbara Frueh on March 9th, 2023 11:49 am

I only met Norris a couple of times but always thought of him as a kind and gentle man. My daughter Krista loved him and Gail very much and was always made to feel like part of the Monaghan family.
It’s so hard to say goodbye to the ones we love and have been in our lives forever and age has nothing to do with that profound sense of loss.
Peter and I send our sympathies to all of the Monaghan Family.

Condolence from Greg Frangakis on March 13th, 2023 8:14 am

As a close neighbour to the Monaghan family growing up in Nobleton, I knew Norris quite well. Although it’s been many years, I remember Norris keeping Shawn and I in line as we would get ourselves in trouble. He put us to work a few times at his job sites when we were young.
I always had great respect for Gail and Norris, I spent many hours in their pool on Midway. A great man. My condolences to Shawn, Cheryl, Craig, Rennie, and Dwayne

Condolence from Lisa Hoffmann on March 14th, 2023 7:46 am

I am so sorry for all of your loss’s. My late husband Ralph Hoffmann and I have known the Monaghan family since the early years in King City and went to school with Shawn at King City High School. Ralph then lived with ‘the Monaghan’ for a while in Bellewart, and then we continued our friendship at Go Home Lake for many more years. Over the years Norris and Gail (and many of the other family members) would come to visit and we had the pleasure of spending many days with them chatting on the dock or over a meal. Norris always had a story to tell and we listened avidly. More recently, I also had the pleasure of visiting Norris down in Florida when Shawn and Dolly came for a visit. Norris just loved life and everything it had to offer, but mostly he loved his family. My deepest condolences to the entire Monaghan family

Condolence from Laurie Gloster on March 18th, 2023 10:02 am
