Chown web

Peacefully at Brampton Civic Hospital, Brampton, on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, Maureen Chown (Maloney), of Woodbridge, in her 85th year, beloved wife of Gordon Chown. Loving mother of Larry and his wife Elaine, Pat and his wife Elizabeth, Richard, Mary Ellen and her life partner Jim Blake, Chris and his life partner Tia Menich. Cherished Nanny of Alicia and her husband Kevin, David, Kristin and her husband Ryan, Mark and his wife Rachelle, Christopher, Emily and her husband Matt, Patrick and his fiancée Mariah, Ryan, Garrett, and Rachel. Proud Great-Nanny of Toby, Anna, and Clara. Beloved sister of Margaret, Larry, and Katy (deceased). Maureen was born November 3rd, 1932, in Toronto, and maintained a strong faith with the Roman Catholic Church, and was a member for more than 50 years with Catholic Women’s League. Maureen was a very creative soul, with a passion for fashion, sewing, and art. She would never be seen without a project in progress, whether it be needlepoint or quilt, and was a lifelong member of The Canadian Quilt Guild. Maureen never missed the annual Quilt Canada Conferences, and travelled across Canada to participate. Maureen also pursued her interest in history and urban planning. When her children were in high school, she attended Humber College, and landed a career with Region of Peel Planning, where she worked for several years. Maureen was a giver, and always put others first. She attended nursing in 1953 at St. Michael’s, but a young handsome man from Weston named Gordon swept her off her feet. In September 1954 Maureen and Gordon married. They settled in Toronto Gore and raised a family of five children. After 27 years, they relocated to Woodbridge. Maureen brought joy to every life she touched. Her warm smile, caring nature, unwavering love for her family, sense of humour and laughter will be remembered by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the staff of Hawthorn Woods Community Care and CCU staff at Brampton Civic Hospital for their compassion and care. Maureen, you are loved and we miss you.

The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton, (905-857-2213) Sunday afternoon, January 8th from 1 – 4 o’clock.

Funeral Mass will be held in St. Padre Pio Church, 5500 Major Mackenzie Drive, Kleinburg on Monday morning, January 9 at 9:30 o’clock.

Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Woodbridge.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart & Stroke Association.

Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

Condolence from Barb (long time / forever friend) on January 5th, 2017 12:13 pm

My heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Chown family. There are not enough words to describe the wonderful person that Maureen was. It would not have been possible to be friends with Mary Ellen and not know her Mom as they were so much a part of each others lives. They didn’t just love each other, they said it. They respected each other and were always supportive of each others interests; role models Alicia proudly acknowledges. Maureen’s time here and her memory will ensure the love and support she so generously shared with everyone continues for many more generations.

Love you Mary Ellen and Alicia xo

Gord, its such a shock to just find out that Maureen had passed away recently. Maureen was truly a wonderful sweet kind lady with a contagious smile. You couldn’t help but smile when you sat with her. She always made you feel welcomed. We would meet yearly at the CWL Meeting s and conventions and would talk for hours and reminisce over people we knew in Wildfield.
