Lynn Fearn-Stewart passed peacefully at St. Mike’s Hospital, Toronto on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, surrounded by family and joined on a video-call by her mom and other loved ones. Lynn had suffered major injuries in a cycling accident on April 1. Lynn will be forever the loving wife and best friend of Deacon Bruce Stewart, proud mother of Elizabeth (Brennan), John, Paula and David, and grandmother of Penelope, always the centre of Lynn’s heart. Lynn is the cherished daughter of Fern and the late Ian Fearn, sister of Judy (Ron), Gail, Karen (Jacques), Kevin, David (Jenn) and Jeff (Jean). Sister-in-law of Les (Terry), Marian (Ed, deceased), Beverley (Hugh), Gary (deceased), Keith (deceased), and Jay. Attentive aunt to Glenn (Sharon), Andrea (John), Matthew, Ian, Emily, Angela, Kara, Lauren, Brenden, Rylan, Angela, Les Paul, Sarah, Murray, Alex (Jen) and Tony. Lynn lived out her belief in our loving God through the compassion she showered on all she encountered. Her home was always open to family and friends, for gatherings and longer stays. In her work as an adoption social worker, she gave devoted service to many. To all she met she was a courageous and caring woman, always able to enter others’ lives, easing their burdens and increasing their joy. Her passion for cycling gave her personal challenges, great holidays with Bruce and introduced her to a wonderful circle of friends. Her passing leaves large holes in many communities. May we all be inspired by her example of a life lived in selfless love. The family thanks the hospital for their deep compassion throughout Lynn’s stay, especially in these trying times. We are also grateful for the many messages and gestures of support.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Lynn’s Life and mass will take place later.

In lieu of flowers, they would prefer donations to Bethell Hospice in Inglewood.

Bruce , Family & Friends I am so sorry for your loss of your wife, mother, & friend! My two sisters both worked with you Bruce at Pinchin Environmental. Karen Slayer for many, many years, whose husband Ralph called me today & Diane Cunningham for 8 years until she passed with Melanoma Cancer , December 31st., 2008. I mention this as this time with Diane in Credit Valley Hospital was when I got to know Lynn. Lynn would come & visit Diane & bring welcome homemade containers of Hot delicious Food. This was a wonderful highlight as Diane was hospitalized from June 5th to October 18th. Along with her food was laughter, uplifting conversation as Lynn filled the room with Joy! Same happened for Karen in her home thou, more a full dinner atmosphere for a year before she passed with Cancer April 14th, 2018. I know for you Bruce, Karen was very supportive of your accomplishment to be a Deacon. You also would know how Lynn at a time of need, positively touched both my sisters lives. On behalf of all three of us I hope you can feel me hugging you ALL right now with my heartfelt feelings and condolences. Louise (Hoey) Loader

Condolence from Rouzbeh on April 16th, 2020 3:04 pm

I died as a mineral and became a plant,
I died as plant and rose to animal,

I died as animal and I was Man.
Why should I fear? When was I less by dying?

Yet once more I shall die as Man, to soar
With angels bless’d; but even from angelhood

I must pass on: all except God doth perish.
When I have sacrificed my angel-soul,

I shall become what no mind e’er conceived.
Oh, let me not exist! for Non-existence

Bruce and Family
I was so sorry to hear of Lynn’s tragic accident. A horrendous loss at any time but especially during these trying times. I worked with Lynn when she was at Peel CAS and always enjoyed our time together. She was an exuberant person with compassion for everyone. She cared deeply about her family, friends and clients. She always talked about her family and we had a laugh many times over the exploits of the children. Although we did not remain in touch after she left CAS I always had news of her from the people she worked with in the private sector. She was coming to my retirement party in 2013 but was unable to attend at the last moment. She will be missed and my heart goes out to her huge loving family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Condolence from Maureen O’Dell on April 18th, 2020 4:53 pm

I am still stunned and deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved Lynnie, my wonderful, funny, caring, loving, big hearted friend of 30+ years. In stronger moments, I remember the talks and laughs we had, the crazy time when she was supposed to be my student but it felt more like herding cats, and I am just so very grateful to have had her in my life. She was a true shining diamond. My heart goes out to you, Bruce, and your family. You did indeed have ‘Good luck with that one’!

Condolence from Mary Allan on April 18th, 2020 5:16 pm

Dear Bruce and family, I have known Lynn for many years as a colleague in adoption. We go back a long way, first working in adoption disclosure, later teaching together, and more recently as a private practitioner. I watched the service for her today. It helped me to think of the fact that I/we had all these years with Lynn, rather than the deep loss. How blessed are we. (Your daughter’s laughter in the background sounded just like her!! and this warmed my heart.)

Lynn was everything that others have described her as, and our association will never be the same. She was so much fun, yet could be very serious when needed, but she also loved to poke fun at herself. Gosh, I will miss her so much. My deepest condolences.

Condolence from Elaine Hill on April 18th, 2020 5:50 pm

Dear Bruce, my sincere, heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I hope you find comfort and joy in the happy memories you have of Lynn to help you through your loss.
I have had the privilege to know Lynn as an adoption practitioner colleague. Her energy and joyful presence, her caring, thoughtfulness and wicked sense of humour will be sadly missed. She had great love and passion for her family, adoption work and every facet of her life. She was a true guide in the way to live life to the fullest and will leave huge holes in the communities she was engaged in.
Thank you for sharing the recording of Lynn’s vigil. It was not shocking to hear so many people attended and lovely to hear Lynn’s infectious laugh come from her daughter.

Condolence from Dagmar Niffeler on April 19th, 2020 8:01 pm

Dear Bruce and Family,

As a fellow colleague and friend in the adoption community, I knew Lynn for many years, since she started her career as a private practitioner. We shared many journeys together, some challenging and others full of fun. I always admired her energy, initiative, and caring for others. Not only did she give of herself to her family, clients, and friends, but her humanitarianism extended globally..she quietly gave to an organization of which I am a member, to help grandmothers in Africa raising their orphaned grandchildren….and she expected nothing in return.
May your memories of Lynn sustain you, especially her kindness, zest for life, and sense of humour….She was such a warm, generous and big-hearted woman, whose smile lit up her face …
Lynn, I will miss you, and your life was too short, but truly it was a life well lived….I will always remember you as someone very special….

Condolence from Kerry Vandergrift on April 20th, 2020 3:33 pm

Dear Bruce and family
Our adoption community is mourning the loss of a bright light, but we know her warmth, humour and generous spirit will guide us all in our relationships with clients and colleagues alike. Lynn was fun , warm and full of life. She loved her children so much talking about them often and especially her lovely little Poppy, a delight since her arrival in the family. We owe her much – the time she gave to organize our professional meetings, her participation in ministry consultations, her contributions to the adoption community in all aspects of our adoption work. Everyone loved to work with Lynn. No pretense, mu ch compassion and empathy for those in difficult life circumstances. And, there are certain kinds of life partners who can walk beside social workers and particularly adoption workers on- call 7 days a week – and Bruce – you have been the constant in her life to share her life work. We thank your family for sharing Lynn with us and for including us in her service. We have lost a bright light but she lives on in her children and grandchildren. Thnking of your family

Lynn was a great friend, confidant and sounding board. She always listened with her tolerant attitude and easygoing demeanour. We often laughed together about all the silly things we had done together as teenagers and then as adults. Her laugh was big and infectious. She filled the room with love. I’m missing her smile. Condolence from Khadijah on April 21st, 2020 2:44 pm

Dear Bruce and family,
My sincere condolences to you all. I was heartbroken to hear of the passing of the lovely Lynn and still cannot believe she has left. Lynn was an amazing lady – full of life, free spirited and with a contagious laughter. There are not enough words to describe her kind and caring nature. She was extremely compassionate and so generous. Lynn would always be the first to lend a helping hand or offer to listen to anyone’s problems. Her wisdom knew of no bounds. She taught me how to be truly grateful for life’s blessings and to always focus on the positive. Lynn has supported me on my journey of fighting for my dream and refused to let me give up. Her love for others was unconditional, never expecting even an ounce in return. I feel truly blessed to have known someone so special, so kind-hearted, so happy … so Lynn. I will really miss her, though I know that she is resting in a better place, pain free, by God’s side. We’ve lost an angel, but she is now in her rightful home, heaven. My warmest thoughts and prayers to Lynn’s family and friends.

Bruce & Family,
I am saddened to learn of Lynn’s passing. I will never forget the love Lynn, yourself and your children showed me when I spent a week in your home immediately after I joined Pinchin Ltd in 2001. Your support made my settling in Canada far much easier. May God bless you and your family and give you peace and strength during this difficult time.

I have left a similar message on Lynn’s Face Book page and my own —— Darling Lynn was a devoted bike rider – she loved the activity and did what she could to help others enjoy themselves and overcome their fears – but when cycling season was over we hiked – courtesy of Caledon Hills Cycling – generally some 30-40 people would show up at the shop by 6:30 for a challenging hike – we solved so many problems out there in the dark woods – one night while waiting for others to arrive I watched Lynn enter the shop with a shower cap on her head – I broke up —- what the heck Lynn – well she’d for some reason decided to get her glorious curls straightened and didn’t want the damp to frizz her accomplishment – I knew then and there I loved her – Lynn knew who she was, what she wanted – what an example to set for so many —– Lynn you will be in my heart forever.
