Growing up in Nobleton, I remember Lou always surrounded by his girls, and still making time for the boys in town. He coached a number of us in hockey, and was always well respected for his leadership and kindness.

Hello Lou’s family: I have never met you, yet Lou was one of my very favourite cousins. I live in B.C. now, moved around a lot as my husband was in the RCAF. I did manage to meet Lou a few years ago when cousin Nora, Helen & Lou all came to my brother Jim’s place in Tottenham. Lou’s Mom & my Dad were brother and sister. I feel bad at times like this when I realize how much I have missed out on in family times by leading the life of a nomad, always moving. Lou is a very special person and I shall always remember him fondly. I never ever heard him say a bad word about anyone. I offer you my most sincere condolences. I am getting on in years too, will be 79 next month & health is not so great, so as much as I would love to be there to remember Lou, I cannot, but he will always be in my heart. Love from his cousin June Heale (nee Wilcox).

To Lou’s family: Please accept our sincere sympathy. Gary had a little visit with Lou up at the plaza a couple of weeks ago. Your Dad was always a favourite of Garys. Many happy memories of the good old days at the arena. I really think everyone likes Lou.

We were very saddened to hear the news of the passing of your Dad. Gail and I wish to forward our sincere sympathy to you and your families. Lou Curtis was a distinctive fine gentleman, an outstanding lifelong member in our community and a strong leader in the establishment of our Nobleton minor hockey. As you know your Dad successfully managed numerous boy’s hockey teams, including the very first Ontario Championship Midget team in Nobleton. As a member of that team, I still fondly remember his guidance, leadership, patience and strong character. Your Dad could clearly articulate directions, sternly, in a calm positive fashion and he would always play along in our dressing room high jinx. At other times his small smile or frown was all he needed to communicate with our team. He was a surrogate father who instilled confidence and molded character in many Nobleton boys. He left his mark and will never be forgotten.

I heard of Lou’s passing from his cousin June Wilcox Heale, who lives in BC. We are Facebook friends from a group of people remembering Woodbridge, where I went to High School.
I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your dad. Lou had such a gentle way about him. I first met him at a school function I think, as Crystal is the same age as my son Peter. Of course we met again when I helped your mom with some catering in town, and in recent years I would go into town to play euchre with the seniors.
Whenever I met him, either at the plaza or the arena, he always was willing to stop and chat. I know that you will miss him terribly.
I have lived in Kitchener for the past 4 years so am definitely out of the loop.
