Louis Robert Oakes passed away, with “his girls” by his side, on September 21, 2 days after his 82nd birthday.

Lou was one of a kind.  He loved life and lived it on his own terms.  Everyone who knew him, loved him.  His wit, sense of humour and kind and gentle nature will be missed by his family and his many, many friends.

Born in Westmoreland, PEI, in 1940, he made his way to Ontario as a teen.  He sauntered in to get his drivers license at the age of 14 and passed with flying colours.  When they discovered he was only 14, they immediately kicked him out and told him to come back when he was 16!

He fell for a beautiful girl, Tina, who he offered a ride home to every day, and finally one day she agreed. They married in Nobleton and eventually settled in Kleinburg where they raised their family.  As a family they enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, travelling and even tried their hand raising beef cattle.  He taught his children the value of hard work, how to be enterprising and to live life to the fullest. His entrepreneurial spirit and ability to mentor those who worked for him, carries on.  He continued to be actively involved in King Hydroseeding, never missing a day.  His wisdom and knowledge were invaluable and will be sorely missed.

He was a great conversationalist, storyteller and always up on current events.  We will miss our morning talks over coffee in the barn.  He leaves a huge void which can never be filled.

Cherished father of Laura (Kirk), Kimberly, Robert (Julia), Teresa, and David (deceased).  Devoted grandfather of Jessica, Matthew, Holly, Jordan, Paige, Jade, Chloe, Lydia, and Michael.

The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 o’clock.

Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday morning, September 30 at 11 o’clock.

I can’t believe my beloved Uncle is gone. As a child I spent many of weekends at Uncle Lou’s and Aunt Tina’s home. Their house was a family gathering place. He and my dad would drive us kids in the back of the pickup truck down to the river near Klienburg for a swim on hot summer days.

My beloved Uncle named me Gail. He was a great father.

Laurie, Kim, Robert and Teresa my heart goes out to you with your loss.

Love Gail
