I worked with Gord for a great many years . Thru good and bad times and we always enjoyed each other’s Friendship.

Geordie & I are the same age. I knew him when he was courting my cousin Maureen Maloney. He sang at my wedding and the funeral of my Mom Martha. We jokingly injected insulting humour on each other for years. He was a great guy. I’ll remember both he and Maureen fondly. My sincere condolences to his children and family.

My sincerest condolences on the passing of your Dad – I have too many fond memories of Gord to count, from the weekly Saturday mornings at Woodbridge pick-up hockey, to Gord as my first-ever hockey coach on the Camplin Oilers Novice Provincial Champions, to Bolton Community Centre Saturday nights and to Mayfield Mondays. Gord was a good man, a loyal friend to my Dad and an example to all of us, and a true pillar of the young Wildfield community. He will be missed.

I’ve known Gord for many years.
I first met Gord when as a kid, I skated during the warm up with my dad’s, Mel Legg, old THL team in the 1950s when they scrimmaged at 7:00 am Saturday mornings in Woodbridge.
Eventually when I was big enough they let me play.
After many years at Woodbridge I think we played a short time at Edelwiess ? in the evening and then moved to Monday night at Mayfield for many years.
At least once in every game in every venue there would be a shot that caused Leo Grant to almost swear, my dad to say “what the Sam Hill” and Bill Jeans to roll his eyes and laugh. That shot would come from an impossible angle below the red line in the corner.
Gord always had a great time with the team weekend at Bill Jean’s cottage.

I don’t remember Bill Grant scoring very much against Gord on our Mayfield Monday Nights. I do remember Leo Grant, one of Gord’s good friends, and how effective his elbows were. I cherish the memories of life in the subdivision. My cousins, the Giblins, lived next door. One day, one of Gord friends had a Kodachrome 8mm movie camera. There was a kid’s toy tunnel. He gathered about twenty local kids and had them all come out of the tunnel one by one. The trick was that he would stop and start the filming so it would seem as if all twenty kid magically came out of the small tunnel. Gord was always a stalwart at Wildfield reunions. Gord used to sing with my dad, George and Maureen and my mom, Joan loved genealogy. Gord was always larger than life and I am very happy to have known him and his wonderful family.

I pass on my condolences to the Chown family in your loss. I worked for Gord at Redirack, competed against Gord and with Gord at Econorack/Konstant for the pass 40 years. He was a salesmen at heart. He loved the thrill of winning. He was larger than life and was always tenacious but kind. God speed my friend

Always good natured, full of fun and good conversation, Gord has been missed since his departure from the club.
Played my last round with Gord in 2017 and as always he was swinging for the fences at 83.

Heart felt condolences to you all, on your loss of Gord. Dan has many fond memories of him as his hockey coach, & enjoyed many fun times growing up with the boys. We have an old hockey picture on our bar with Gord as the coach & he thinks it was Larry also in the picture. We had the pleasure after all these years, into running into Richard at Pearson airport after returning back to Toronto from Florida, & Dan was so happy, & it brought back all the great times shared with the family, & he had to look at the old picture as soon as he returned home, & also get out his old Mayfield yearbooks:). Treasure the beautiful memories he left you all.

My condolences to the Chown family. In the early sixties I bowled with him in Brampton through the Wild Field group. Gord was fun to be with and a formidable bowler and organizer.
