Dear Barb & Family,
Larry and I were so very sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. Joe and I first met many years ago as volunteers with Caledon Meals on Wheels where Joe devoted many hours delivering meals and also mentoring and supporting the elderly. Joe was a true gentleman and the world will miss his humour and intelligence. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. Carol & Larry

In July 1970 Air Canada Flight #621 crashed near McVean Drive in the former Toronto Gore., Everyone perished.

The Chief Coroner requested a coroners jury be assembled quickly so they could tour the scene and be aware of the carnage.. He requested at least one member be an engineer.

Joe was one of two engineers who volunteered on short notice and were able to assist the jury make their recommendations at the inquest.

Sorry for your loss , my brother Sean and sister Martina where taught math at Mayfield by your Dad. They said he was a very good teacher and made math interesting. Sean said he enjoyed his classes and crisp sense of humour .

Sincere sympathy on the passing of Mr. Stein. We attended Saint Patrick’s with the Stein children and was taught math by Mr. Stein at Mayfield. Mr. Stein always had complete control of his class and was well respected.

Uncle Joe was always a very special person to me. I met him when I was about 8 or 9 years of age and he was a remarkable adult who when he met treated me like I was a person with a fully functioning mind.(Even though I was a kid.) He taught me how to roast marshmallows in and fireplace and shared with me his love of science fiction and murder mysteries. We traded names of authors and loaned each other books over the years. He wrote poetry and loved puzzles, and whenever I saw him, he always made me feel really important, like he had been waiting to see me and talk with me and exchange thoughts and beliefs about the important questions in life: who we are, what we are doing here, how we should live when we’re here, and what comes after. I will really miss him and I know that everyone in his family recognized what an exceptional human being he was and will grieve that he is gone and will think of him every day . My thoughts and prayers are with you all, my cousins and my aunt Barbara..

My heart goes out to the Stein Family. I just heard that Mr.Stein had passed away. I will always remember Mr. Stein as being a very friendly and wonderful neighbour of the subdivision. He always had a smile on his face and had a very kind and warm personality when he greeted you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this very sad time. He will be missed by his Wildfield friends.

Very sorry to hear about yhe loss of Joe, a Prince of a guy with a heart of gold. The last few times we had a coffee together at McDonalds, he told me of a few of his health problems, but he never dwelled on them. He was optimistic, wise and always friendly with a great sense of humour. I will miss him.

With deepest sympathy to the Stein family on your loss. It was with great regret that I read of his passing. My friendship with Joe goes back to our childhood in Windsor, yet my memories linger on even though the great enemy time interupted our continuing contact. He was the sage of Marentette Avenue then with his rare Encyclopedia Brittaniica in hand. Later he became a mentor guiding me along in his footsteps to my career in aviation from U tof D to A. V. Roe when we shared a residence as Jr. engineers, and then at Avro after which we regrettably lost contact. I latterly found that our families lived but a stones throw away, we in Heart Lake and you in Caledon. I had planned since discovering your nearness to meet again, but now alas
the window has been deferred. May Your own good memories of Joe linger on and by the grace of God give you peace.

I was so sad to hear of your husbands ( and your fathers) passing. I will never forget his beautiful smile, his dimples, his great story telling, and his
” always funny” jokes. I received emails over the past 10 years, where he shared his mathematical mind and equations quizzes. They were always thought provoking, but brilliant ones, JUST LIKE YOUR FATHER WAS.
My deepest condolences to you all. I will always remember , how loving he was with you all, and I hope your beautiful memories of him will help you through this terribly difficult time

Barb, I’m so sorry to hear about Joe’s passing. He hired me in my first teaching job at North Park in 1979, and was a great influence in my teaching career. He was definitely a visionary, a man ahead of his time. I’ll never forget him cradling my 1-month-old son at New Years – he was a natural with children! I have many fond memories of our years together at North Park. Take care and my condolences to you and the whole family.

I watched Joe at work lighting the way for so many colleagues and students. His impact was enormous, but he made certain he never stood in the spotlight himself. That just wasn’t his style.

I am sorry to hear the sad news about Joe. Louise and I have lost a good friend. I will always remember the 11 years we spent together at North Park, The things Joe did for Mathematics in Peel were way ahead of the times. Education has lost a visionary and you and your loving family have lost a man full of love, fully dedicated to his family.

My most sincere condolences go to the Family of Mr Stein who was my most favorite TEACHER in my life.I moved to the states 20 years ago talked to him once since then then lost his address and have been searching for the last ten years, My brother forwarded this to me.
Mr Stein brought math to life and it was an absolute pleasure to have Him as someone I respected.
I remember Doug Shepherd and I taking our snowmobiles to his house one day when school was closed and took his kids on a ride and was treated to sandwiches, we had a great time.
i mention him frequently as the best teacher, even though the Avro Arrow project displaced him and I am sure this brought some disappointment in his life, this gave his students the opportunity of knowing a great man, He had such love for his work not only engineering but mankind.I wished I had met up in my search.
He will be missed and am sorry for those who are left behind.
I have tried to pattern my life after his selflessness giving others the credit, teaching and Loving.He will be missed,,He is missed.
