Byrne John Web

August 22, 1944 – June 19, 2017
Forever we will remember the life of a treasured husband, devoted father, dedicated grandfather, supportive brother and brother-in-law, caring uncle, great friend and proud police officer.
John grew up in Toronto Gore on the family farm with his parents, Teresa and Martin, and his sisters and brother, Mary Margaret (Danny), Paul (Kathy) and Theresa Anne (Alan). The Toronto Gore was a very special farming community where neighbours were life long friends.
John married Jackie in 1970 and this past April, with their children Christine and Rosemary (Alex), and their grandchildren, Lauren, Hannah, Sean, Patrick, Matthew and William, they celebrated 47 years of happy marriage. John was predeceased by his wonderful son-in-law, Daniel.
In 1964, John joined the Ontario Provincial Police as a constable. During his 9 years with the OPP, he enjoyed several as a member of the Golden Helmets Motorcycle Precision Ride before joining the Chinguacousy Township Police which later became Peel Regional Police. John took tremendous pride in his 38 years of policing and he proudly retired as an Inspector in 2002.
John loved nothing more than supporting his grandchildren, rides on his Harley and time spent by the pool with his many, many friends and family.
The Byrne family welcomes friends to Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street South (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Friday, June 23 between 3 and 7 p.m. to share memories and stories of a true gentleman. John’s funeral mass will be held on Saturday morning, June 24 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 11873 The Gore Road, Brampton (Wildfield) at 9:30 a.m. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Patrick’s Cemetery Board, 11873 The Gore Road, Brampton L6B 0B2 will be gratefully accepted to assist with perpetual care. John was president of the Cemetery Board for many years. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

Condolence from L. “Lonny” Blackett. on June 20th, 2017 7:10 pm

As fate would have it, I first met John in 1972 , prior to my being a member of the Peel Regional Police, and I joined the Department in 1974. I relocated to Brampton in 1972 from Montreal due to the tense Political climate in the Province of Quebec at the time. The Company for whom I was employed, was located at 80 West Dr, and I was a “key holder”,which meant that in the event of a building alarm, I would be called to attend the premises. During one of these alarms,John ,who was then a Constable with Chinguacousy Township Police, attended, and together we checked the premises, and it seemed that ever since then, we bonded. When I became a member of Peel Regional Police,we both worked out of 21 Division. We also worked out of 11 Division, and finally at the Airport Division where he was my Superior Officer. Needless to say, over the years I came to know John and Jackie, and I can say that John was a heck of a “Cop”who enforced the Law to the letter. He had a great sense of humour and was a devoted family man. I was privileged to visit him while he was in Hospital, and during that visit, we re-hashed lots of our shared Police experiences and the laughter was contagious. When I walked into his room, he said that he knew that of all people,he knew I would come to see him. Some day, we all have to pass on,and to,you John,I say, it was a privilege to know and to work both with, and for you. You will always be remembered. Rest in Peace my friend…..Sgt.(Ret) Lonny Blackett #445, Peel Regional Police.

Condolence from Lori and Kieran O’Connor on June 20th, 2017 7:42 pm

Condolence from Jim Bertram, Deputy Chief Peel Police (rtd) on June 20th, 2017 8:04 pm

Words are never adequate to describe the loss of someone we love as a father, grand- father, a husband, a sibling or a friend. Suffice to say that Stephanie ( nee Archdekin) and my thoughts are with you.

John was a highly respected officer, a wonderful role model and a friend and mentor to many.

To us however he was always the grown up farm boy from the Gore.

I first met John Byrne shortly after amalgamation Jan 1st, 1974 and then on many occasions when our careers intersected. John was very much a well respected officers and later supervisor. I left Peel prior to his promotion to Inspector but certainly was not surprised whatsoever. John could always be counted on and was the type of officer who contributed in large measure to the reputation for excellence we soon earned as a Regional Police Service. Please remember that John was always a very sincere and dedicated family man as well as a proud member of Peel Police, Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. Remember the good memories and keep them forever in your hearts.

John always exuded a great degree of common sense and good humour. John very often became the centre and the draw to many great conversations which usually ended by all learning something and probably a good laugh to boot.

Condolence from Marion Pape on June 22nd, 2017 12:01 pm

I was visiting my sister Evelyn when I heard the news of John’s death from everyone I visited, especially brotherJim who worked with John on the St. Patrick’s cemetery. I was in Grade 1 through 8 with John long long ago. That incredible Wildfield community is now coming together around John and reading the stories, I can see that he was quite a memorable guy who will be missed. My condolences to the family.

Rest in peace John.

Condolence from John King on June 23rd, 2017 10:29 am

My condolences to all of John’s family. John was a fine gentleman.
Although I lived North of ’17’, I always felt part of the ‘Gore’; especially the Castlemore area; from the school to riding the bus to Bramalea with Paul and Theresa Anne; to cutting hay for Martin, when John would lean over the fence and chat when he got home. Fond memories from simpler times.

John

Condolence from Kate Stokes on July 2nd, 2017 11:00 pm

Jackie, Rosemary, Christine and your Families,

Our sincerest sympathy to all of you on the loss of your husband and father. It’s still hard to comprehend. John was way too young and it was definitely too soon to leave all of us. It was always enjoyable when he contacted us to tell us of something happening up at the Church that involved our Cemetery Group. Or if we were having meetings or cleaning up the grounds. He was always thoughtful with buying us coffees at clean up times. He always had a smile on his face, related old stories of Gore Road life and just wanted to ”make things right” with problems we encountered at the cemetery. He took his position as President very seriously. He was definitely a wealth of knowledge for anything. We will miss that part. We will miss our friend terribly. Please know that our warm embrace surrounds all of you at this time and that Johns memory will live on in all of us. And John, thank you for introducing me to Peel Regional Police.

Brian and Kate Stokes
