Condolences for the family of “John Harbinson Woodburne”

Condolence from Brian Stevens on March 4th, 2018 8:29 am

On behalf of Hope United I would like to offer our sincere condolences. I also knew John personally and he was so very kind and supportive of my work at Hope United. We would like to hold a memorial service at Hope in his honour. Through his volunteer work at Hope United he had many friends and colleagues within the United Church in East End Toronto.

I worked with John at the CRA and also knew him from the neighbourhood at Main and Danforth in Toronto. He was never without his quick wit and sparkle in his eye. I always enjoyed his company and he will be truly missed. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to his family during this time of sorrow.

Condolence from Phil Wilson on March 6th, 2018 5:27 pm

I worked with John at CRA and have many fond memories of him.

He was quick with a joke and always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye. He had a sense of fun and a positive attitude towards life.

John loved people and it showed.

He will be missed by his many friends and colleagues.

Though we’re sorry to lose him, I’m glad that he’s not suffering anymore.

My deepest sympathy to John’s family and to his closest friends.

Rest in peace, John. God rest your soul.

Your long journey is complete.

John was a true friend with a great sense of humour. He would often step in to help others whether it was at his work, or for a friend in need. He was well liked by those who knew him, and we always enjoyed his company. We will miss you. God bless you and thank you for the joy you brought us.

Condolence from Paul Smith on March 10th, 2018 11:25 am

John was a coworker and friend at the CRA.
I always enjoyed our times together, along with his humour.
John made the office entertaining at times.
Dinners out with the gang after work will never be the same.
I will miss my friend.

I met John at work around 10 years ago and over the years got to know him and I’m glad that I did. I liked his character and personality. Mostly his directness as he’d say what’s on his mind and share his opinion. Also, he’d give you his undivided attention. So, you’d feel special. On occasion he’d laugh after telling a serious story that you’d fall for. I remember John saying, “You should have seen the look on your face”, as he smiled.

Back in 2009, CRA offered a Writing Skills Test Level 3 Preperation course that I signed up for. There were many sessions over several weeks between May and June. John Woodburne was one of the instructors.

Although I already knew John, with this course I indeed got to know John much better as he taught. He showed good teaching skills and shared some humour making learning easier. Was impressed, admired him, back then.

John was also a Union rep. His passion for helping showed throughout the years. He made a difference

Sharing some thoughts. Feeling sad. Letting the family know that I liked him and appreciate that our lives crossed paths at work. May time help heal.

I used to work with John at CRA. There was a mischievousness about him. This and his sense of humour often made my day. I feel bad because today I decided to look him up and give him a call since I’ve been retired for a number of years.
So sorry I didn’t call earlier, John. Miss you.
