Condolence from Jeff and Linda Pacella on January 22nd, 2011 7:30 am

Dear Gaye, Michelle and Steven

These are the things that we will miss most about Jim:

• his unconditional acceptance of his “new” neighbours, even though Jeff thought we moved in beside a “Used car salesman”
• moving in and finding out at Home Hardware that we live next door to the Mayor of Marsville
• the advice of a seasoned “Marsvillian” on who to contact and where to get stuff
• Hearing about the fabulous vacations you both enjoyed so much
• The best dinner companions ever
• helping a completely mechanically uninclined person with home maintenance
• stories about the Pink Cadillac when Linda was away
• sitting by the fire discussing life and enjoying each other
• the wiggle of his upraised hand as he drove the lawnmower. This indicated that we were to pour a drink as he was ready for a break.
• Stealing hot dogs off the bar-b que (with butter on the bun ONLY)
• Bocce ball in the back yard
• knowing someone for such a short time and feeling like you have known him forever.
• Trailer time. Your or ours, it was special.
• Charlie’s treat time………..whenever he showed up at your door.
• watching you enjoy your grandchildren, even when you couldn’t keep up
• learning about your family……….through your words they have all become very special to us
• Your booming voice echoing through the neighbourhood
• the man we couldn’t do without during our dark days of the recession
• the one we dreamed about winning the lottery with………..the good we could have all done……….fix the numbers, Jim!
• Our best friend for the best five years
• wishing we could have had that one trip together that we always talked about
• having each other’s backs at all times
• Charlie stopping and not leaving the driveway after your passing
• Your unconditional love for us…………even though you knew all our faults
• you, just being you

We loved Jim so much. Our hearts are broken at the loss of our best friend. Gaye, you know that we will be there for you with whatever “you” need.

All our love

Jeff and Linda

Condolence from Ron & Kathy Dougherty on January 22nd, 2011 5:34 pm

Dear Gaye,
Kathy & I extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family with Jim’s passing. Having each lost a spouse we can share your sorrow and know the importance of the love that family and friends can provide to see you through these stressful times. I think back to the many card games we shared when you and Jim, Barb and myself were newly married and both living in Langley. We also remember your last visit with us and sitting on our deck in Sechelt. If you and Joye didn’t have that concert to attend back in Vancouver, I think Jim would have stayed indefinitely. I know I will miss Jim’s jokes and e-mails. I’m sure that the good Lord has a very strong hockey team that Jim can cheer for which will help make up for all those years of being a Leaf’s fan and I’m sure the fairways and greens in heaven are immaculate and will be much to Jim’s liking.
Love, Ron & Kathy

Words cannot express how much I will miss him. Sorry for your
loss.

Condolence from Julia West on May 24th, 2016 4:59 pm

I met him when we both lived in the “westend” of Vancouver back in 1967! He said his full name was Shamus Noel O’conell Wetli. I remember him as an excellent crib player, the best joke teller of all time & the biggest Frank Sinatra fan ever! Although I only knew him for 6 months or so that silly name has stayed in my memory & so after all this time I looked him up on Google the other day. I was surprised & disappointed to find of his passing but after reading the condolences I realized that he had been surrounded by loving family & friends & had remained his same outrageous self!
Although we’ve never met….thank you for suffering & supporting that wonderful fellow I remember from so very long ago.
Julia West
