Lorraine and family,

My heart aches for the man I came to know as Daddy Glassford. His gentle smile, his understanding nod and even his “look” to tell me to be be still will be forever in my memory. He was my freind, my mentor and yes my substitute father. Thank you Lorraine for sharing this amazing man with me. I still remember the time he introduced me to his friends at the mall as your little friend and how he beamed with pride when he spoke of you as his little girl.

My Thoughts on DAD…

– The fact that although DAD’s Birth Certificate [and Drivers Licnense] said he was in 90th year, we had always treated and did things like he was in his 60’s,
o Whether it was doing Shelf Stocking for Grant
o Working on the many extensions of Allan Glassford’s Driving shed, with Scott
o Working /Supervising the construction of what became known as the ‘Man Cave’ on Scott’s Garage Extension.
o Doing Electrical/Plumbling projects with Ewing.
o One of the many Back Yard Rock projects with Grant
o Serving Beer or Barbqueing at the various Lion’s Events

– Dad had many Careers in his life:
o Early on was a Farm Labourer [including as part of Thrashing Gang in Saskatewan] and a Butcher
o Farmer on the 2nd Line East of Caledon
o Stone Mason with Emil Steiger
o Farm Manager for the Oliver house
o For many years, as an electrician/Plumber with Harold Hammon
o Customer Service rep in the Electrical/Plumbing at Home Hardware [probably the most enjoyable job he had, due to the fact he got to talk/help many customers.]

– Dad was proud of the fact that he was able to spend his retirement years in the same area as his working years, initially on his farm and working with his 5 farming brothers, and later as a Electrican, but always as a Caledon Boy with 55 + years at Knox United Church and 40 + years in Caledon Lions.

– Even as Dad slowed down in the last year, he was still the center point of much of our daily activity, with Grant/Ewing and Scott and grandson Michael dropping in to the house, at various times in the day [ to raid the Almon Jar] usually with a TIM’s , and Dad always ready to jump in the vehicle for a short trip, or Trips to the Mall to gather with his coffee friends, or to the Man Cave to solve the problems of the World, or at least those in the Orangeville Area

– Dad loved to visit and have visitors, weather it be Aunt Velma, or Elizabeth dropping in, [usually with Baking] or down to see Doris [for Lunch ] or to visit the Giles or Limebeers [for Afternoon coffee ] or with Ron and Helene for Supper at the Swiss Chalet; plus Nieghbor Ellen for Evening Tea — as you can tell there was a Trend that Dad loved his Baking … but he loved the time spent with these friends more ……………….

– Dad, always wanted to know how the grand kids were doing, and enjoyed when they dropped in, and the kids even when off at School would have a visit with Grandpa on their plan of events when they came home, to see how he was doing and what he was doing , In turn Dad would save items only they could help him with , or an errands to run with him.

– As you can tell from the pictures displayed the family gatherings where an enjoyable time him and for us , weather it be just a Sunday afternoon in either Grants or Ewings back yards, or with the full family at Thanksgiving, Xmas, and of course part of that enjoyment again, included the fact Karen and Ann would have Pie or other Desert for him. Ann will also miss the trips by Dad to the Bakery where she would hear a voice behind her saying “hey lady can I have a cookie”

– There is going to be a large GAP in our lives for some time to come, but we know that he is now with Mom, who he has missed for these many years, and it helps to know he is with her now..
