How may one express the significance of the other?

I came to know “Ike” whilst I was in my youth.
As a suitor, I was, unto his lovely daughter.
I was struck by the sweet charm of the man. Well kept, grounded.
Handsome, as his wife was beautiful. Together they became a symbol of wedded success.
Whilst he and Shirley were apprehensive to accept me as a suitor, for I come from a broken home. I was never made to feel as “less” a man.
He guided me, with great subtlety, unto a path which I pursued through most of my adult life.
Transportation.
He was such a wonderful dichotomy, vivid is my memory of him still.
By day, super-salesman, dressed to the “nines”. In the evening, a dock worker upon an unheated harsh warehouse.
Tough as nails he was!!!
And yet, as solid and strong as his exterior indeed was.
He had within, a depth of well preserved love and tenderness.
I recall one Xmas. At a loss as to what to gift this man whom had much, I purchased ice skates.
So he might share in my desire to teach my children how to skate upon the frozen lake behind his home.
He sobbed as he viewed the well intended gift. Each of us, all whom were gathered were stunned by his emotional response. We had never known the depth of this mans sweet loving nature.
I could go on and on, as I tend to do.
Suffice to say.
This great man helped shape me.
Gently nudged me unto the man which contemplates him now.
The man whose heart rejoices through knowing this enormous life force.

Our deepest condolences to the family. Ike always had a big smile, I had many fun moments just visiting. Plenty of laughs. Have not seen him for many years. I do miss his laughter.
