Kyla, George, Ariel, and Rebecca ~
Kyla, I want to tell you how sorry I am your mother has passed… Her steadfast friendship, over your lifetime, is, without doubt, irreplaceable…
Over the years, although I saw Helen infrequently, always, she welcomed me with warmth and kindness. She was only ever a phone-call away…
Ariel and Rebecca, the summer of our quilt-making holds my most fond memory of your Nana. Each week, a lovely lunch was there when I arrived from Owen Sound around the noon-hour.
One day on my arrival, Rebecca; with a big smile on her face, your nana gave me to understand she had bribed you with rice crispy squares to entice you into completing your sewing “homework.”
Helen made my oh-so-enjoyable summer “job” easy having a counter for cutting fabric and setting up a portable sewing machine, along with an iron and ironing board at-the-ready. So the stations were there and we had only to put them in motion.
How very kind and thoughtful and clever was Helen ~ always…
Oh, to have back a day of that summer that was….
Ariel and Rebecca, you each pressed on to complete a large, colourful quilt; and were, of course, both proud and excited to show them to your mom on her return from her overseas studies.
And, no doubt, Helen stood smiling in the background. An enabler always!
Again, Kyla and George, Ariel and Rebecca ~ my most sincere condolences.
Lots of love from Aunt Helen
